"SwedishPimple;3716041]Yep, I live in Mich and FWD or AWD is basically a necessity at least for a daily driver."

Just curious, snow tires or no?

Just got back from dealer who quoted me ~$34k for a premium g37x, but no navi. They did state they want to get a deal done by year-end.

I still think I can get it down closer to $32k, am I crazy?

Also, dealer mentioned with AWD on this you don't need snow tires.

Does AWD help you brake, or coast steer on snow/ice?

I've heard mixed reviews on CLA, but essentially it's based on an econobox A-class. And it shows. Driving dynamics are nowhere close to a G37, material quality is average at best and sub-par in places. FWD is a no-no, endless under-steer. And it won't get 30mpg, realistically. Figure low to mid 20s. Also, with the same options you are looking at around $40-42 for a CLA250. Mind you it only hasa 2.0L turbo under the hood.
Not. Worth. It.
G37x is a far better (and better-looking imho) choise. Go with Infiniti. If you really want a Merc, just wait till you can afford an E63 AMG S model. It's got AWD

I agree you get more car for the money with the G37, but fuel efficiency is a big difference based on CLA user reviews. But you pay for 30+ mpg with sluggish 1st/2nd gears.

Sounds like you may want to decide what's more important to you. My G replaced an 04 Acura TSX. Loved that car and it served the purpose at the time well- especially when I was driving 20K miles/year since it easily got 29-31 MPG. Gas mileage is not a G strong suit, but I love the upgrade and don't mind getting low 20's b/c the power is invigorating. Honestly, that power leads to many of us getting worse mileage than we "could" get.

i want my cake and be able to eat it too

In all seriousness, I like both aspects but don't think I could deal with sluggish early gears. Also, I "only" drive 26 miles round trip to work so not a deal killer.

Now just trying to price it out and get best end of year deal on a G37x with premium and preferably navi.

CLA250 barely gets 25mpg in real-world driving, as per Car And Driver.
Sure it's a better fuel economy than G37's, but not by much. Not worth giving up performance, luxury and fun to drive for, in my opinion.

I have a 10 mile roundtrip to work now and wish it was longer b/c of the G

Los Angeles Times Article Quote

"Do you get a real Mercedes for that money? Yes.
But for the discriminating driver, not a real good one."

The bottom-feeding Benz - latimes.com

Sounds like an enthusiast would pass.

I don't want to turn my own thread into a pissing match, but that was one of the articles I read that made me start to look around. After almost a year of being in love with the CLA, I think I'm going to switch to G37x by end of year. It is just more car for the money right now.
