good deal? 2012 G37 Journey w/ Premium w/ 16.5k miles for $27,500?
I found the car I'm looking for at a local dealer. 2012 G37 sedan, premium package, blue slate, wheat interior. Car has 16,500 miles. It was listed on their website for $29,888 but I talked them down to $27,500.
It still has 4.5 years left on the factory warranty and carfax lists it as having been certified, although it doesn't come with the certified warranty. Also shows that it was a rental, but it still only has 16,500 miles. The dealership says that all of their former rentals are executive leases, but I'm not sure if I can believe that or not because it says they bought it at auction. Does this seem like a good deal? Anything I should be aware of/ask about?
Thanks.

This is what the dealer said when I asked about it being a rental:
Unlike most leases, all of our executive rentals are serviced and maintained by the book. Hence, this vehicle has been well maintained and has gone through a 150 point inspection to ensure that it is running just like a brand new car.

If carfax lists it as a rental then it is exactly that a rental. The miles on the car are also consistent with it being a rental vehicle. If it is not an Infiniti dealership you are purchasing the vehicle from then no you will not receive the certified warranty.
4.5 years left is also powertrain warranty only. The bumper to bumper warranty is only 4 years from the original in service date. So you have about 2.5 years left on the bumper to bumper warranty.
As far as the price, full Kelly Blue Book value is $28,500 for that car with the miles on it. Blue slate with wheat interior is one of the worse re-sale color combinations so $27,500 is an OK deal. Given it is a rental car in that color, from my experience as a fleet manager for Infiniti, that dealer probably paid about $23,500 for the car. I would be willing to bet they will take $25,000 to move that car. Especially this weekend. $29,888 was never a realistic price for that car so I would not use that as a point of reference.

Thanks. Why is blue slate with wheat bad for resale?
I'm also looking at a 2011 journey sedan in blue slate with wheat interior. This one has premium package plus navigation with 21,000 miles. It is a one owner leased car with a clean carfax.
What is a good price for the 2011? He started at $28,000 and quickly came down to $27,500. Before I counter, what do you think it's worth? Thanks in advance for all of your help on this.

I would do the 2011 before the 2012. Sound like this was def a rental of some sort. Where it was leased to the rental company or business it was drove a lot in a year. Unless there is service record from Infiniti I wouldn't go with that. Just wheel and deal a little tell him you are looking at the same car newer yr. less miles for the same price and see if he will deal with you. I would leave out rental info. Gl

Again they are lying about the rental portion, I wouldn't deal with them. Blue slate with wheat is one of the colours that will sit on the lot for along time, not an overly popular colour. White on black, black on black etc are the ones that move quick. The 2011 if it is certified I would say anywhere around 27k is a good price, they prob paid about 20-23k for it depending on whether it was an auction piece or a trade in, then about 1-2k for certification. Non certified I would say about 25-26k

Just based on the info in this thread, that seems like a decent deal. OP, confirm your numbers through NADA, KBB and Edmunds. It's not magic.
Oh, and I think the Wheat Leather interior is beautiful. Blue Slate, not so much.

You made a good choice. Not that the rental would have been a bad one, but I think I'd have gone the way you did if it were for me.
The good news with used rental Infinitis is the rental companies charge a pretty big premium to rent them. Even more so with FX's than G's. So that should command a slightly more mature and respectful rental client. But I'm respectful and mature and I still like to test out my rental cars.
I've seen a couple of used rental FX's at our dealership. They're in very nice condition, drive perfectly, passed inspection w/no problems. But we don't hide their history. In fact, I point it out before taking someone on a test drive.
