Ordering Advice

So long story short, basically the car with the options I want is not in the dealership's inventory. The dealer said I have the option of ordering the car with everything I want but it will take 3-4 months...

1) Will it really take that long to get the car in?
2) What is the typical depost needed to make an order?
3) Do I get the price for the car in writing now so that when the car arrives the dealer can't jerk me around on the pricing? And if I do get the price in writing will I be able to get the VIN # in writing also even tho the car has not arrived?
4) What happends if the car price drops by the time my car arrives will I be able to negogiate a better price then the one I got in writing?

Thanks for the help!

I ordered my G in the beginning of October 2007. I didn't actually get the car until the end of January, 2008. It does take as long as they say. I had to put a $1000 deposit down to hold the car. I did not get a VIN number for the car or any price guaranteed. When the car came in, I was able to negotiate a lower price, since the price they gave me when I ordered it was sticker price. Hope this helps.

According to one of my local dealers the car/color/package combo I wanted was nearly impossibly for them to locate. They gave me the bs of ordering it. I went to a few different dealers and they located it for me immediately from a NY dealer. The car arrived 3 days after I purchased it. Bottom line, if they want your business bad enough they can locate the car for you or swap with one of the other dealers. This is assuming it is a big outfit like herb chambers or kelly.

I'd contact a few other dealerships, or even some out of state and see what they can do. Maybe the dealer you are dealing with can't locate the car and want your business anyways, but shop around and be patient. Your car is out there.

Good luck man.

I ordered mine on 1/9/2009 and they just told me they are expecting it to come in Feb. Also note that Nissan is halting production at Tochigi for 11 days in Feb.

VIN # wasn't available because they have to submit the order to the factory. However, I did have price in writing already and they said $1000 deposit is refundable. The dealership I worked with is great.

Today I got the VIN#

Dang, how did you get the price in writing if there is no VIN# to attach it with =P. At least you were smart and made the $1000 refundable. Thats what I am going to do, they must give me in writing the order#, the price, and state that the $1000 is refundable or no deal.

Now that you got the VIN# whens the car officially comming in?

He printed out the Car Spec on a paper with price and I signed it.
I think that's good enough, they are expecting it first half of Feb.
