Great choice. If anyone is going to dial you in via remote tuning, it's Moncef. Looking at videos of other cars he's done and they're mean.

Scoping out two different highway locations to run data logging this Spring. I have two locations... one is 10 miles away, on a stretch of 65 mph highway, between the end of the highway and the last on-ramp. The other is also highway, but actually right around the corner from my house, where one of my kids could run look-out on an overpass bridge to make sure there's no incoming traffic. It's busier than the first, with a 55 mph limit. Not that the limit matters, which is assumed in an exercise like this.

I'm thinking the closer location is better, although the further location is more remote. Either way, it would have to be in the dead of night, and I'll be needing one of my kids to eyeball incoming traffic, directing me on the cell phone. Thing is, I really would rather data log in an isolated area, off public roads.

Sure, I'm way-y-y overthinking this, but hey, it keeps me occupied.

Not overthinking at all. Just saw a guy post (on Reddit) that he was doing logs and got clocked 85 in a 45. Only 17 so may be saying good bye to his license for a bit...

If you have any of these nearby... see if you can find a partially-complete development that has stalled. IE, they built the roads and then paused for whatever reason. Usually you can cone off the entrance to do what you'd like without interference, and the speed limit signs haven't gone up so its whatever the baseline speed limit is (here that's 55).

Or find a section of Eisenhower highway, that should have higher speeds.

I've got months to prepare, and will be looking for a non-public solution. I'm too old to be an outlaw, LOL.

Google "Rochester NY 1/4 mile drag strip". I see three that come up.

Not being overly cautious but don’t over think it either. Just find an area where there isn’t a lot of police presence and little to no traffic late at night.

Sounds like you have some good remote areas already scoped out so you’ll be fine. Heck, I did my previous eTune logs in busy Bay Area, Ca where there is always someone on the road even at 1am.

Yes, you are totally overthinking this. Your top speed is not important. I had to do probably 20 data logs for Z1's remote tune and never did anything illegal. My tune worked fine at Road America when I was hitting 140 mph+

Thanks, 4DRZ, I appreciate the input. 20 logs, yikes!

I think Jon at Z1 felt bad that the tune they originally put on my ECU was garbage, it took so long to get a cable, and he is insanely busy. So he was a bit meticulous with my road tune.

This arrived today.

I think I'm going to chronicle this mod: https://www.myg37.com/forums/ecu-tun...ng-ecutek.html

Thanks for the data logging comments, guys. I started a thread here to collect that stuff, and move some of these comments there.

It's been almost a month since I drove the car. And although it never got over 20°F today, the sun was out and the pavement was clear. So with the ostensibly high priority of burning through this full tank of 91 octane ( ) before getting tuned for 93 this Spring, I went on a long, off-highway romp for the last hour or so. Almost went through a 1/4 tank, but not quite.

After not driving it for a month, then getting on it with somewhat reckless launches on back roads, I'm reminded why this car impresses me so much. Even with snow tires, OMG this car can haul! It's loud, and obnoxious, but it's also luxurious and rewarding. The perfect sweet spot for a great driving experience. I love the way it's set up with current modifications.

I think the only thing that gives me pause is the poly transmission mount. I think I'm getting tired of it.
