Atco Dragway - 12.34 @ 117 first time out...
OK, so as promised, I took some time off from my work to get a few runs in.
As I figured nothing is going to be easy. I learned that the traction on the strip is still no match for two stock rear width street Potenza tires.
This pass was my best and it just breaks loose, bangs off the rev limiter, goes soft, and then recovers....

My next step is to get a set of drag radials and then try. It went 118mph on my last attempt. I used manual shifting. DS did not work well for me.
(There was a fellow with an AMG Mercedes who was running 11.50's @ 122 with RWD and DOT street slicks. My hero!
)
It ain't great, but it's a start. Long day: I left at 3pm, 3.5 hr drive, 3.5 hours to get in (3) passes, and a 2.5 hr drive home, arriving after midnight. I'm bushed.

It is going to take a good set of rubber to realize the full benefit of that much power in the 1/4. That is a good time for the stock wheel/tire setup and your first attempt at taming that beast in the 1/4. I can't wait to see what you can do with a little traction
One thing is certain: Whether I consider to upgrade the trans further, torque converter, rear differential (4.08's?), it would all require a good set of tires. I'll start with that.

I need to look into my Blitz boost controller more. There is an option to variate and map the boost to MPH. This could eliminate the leaving at half throttle and stepping into it later variable.
I dunno. this is new ground to cover. Changes like this are best suited to a track rental day, so changes can be made in succession and delivered without 1.5 hour staging lane delays.
Thanks for your interest. I'll be back.

Coop was the track wet? Looks like it in the vid, but I'm not sure. Definitely the Potenza's are not gonna be your best bet for trackin anyway. Also don't know how warm they were either. If tis cold and wet its gonna hurt your times. Especially waiting 1.5 HR between runs. Best of luck to you. That slip proves awesome results! Congrats!
Hi guys,
I used DS mode on my last attempt. Problem is, leaving at 1/2 throttle it shifted VERY quickly into 2nd and I buried it then. My first two 60' times were 2.07" (12.5"), 2.08" (12.3") and this one was 2.35" and it ran 12.7. Dead on the line.
The guy in the AMG Mercedes (with the street slicks) suggested I run DS, as he just sat there, stabbed the gas, let the computer do the work, and blew it out of the gates with a 1.80" 60' time (11.53 @122!)
Funnily, these are the EXACT same tires I ran 11.16 @125 on my STI last year. But that's all wheel drive. THey aren't going to deliver in this instance. (BTW, I ran 26 lbs in them here.)
The track glistens with the traction compound they apply. It wasn't slick, as there were plenty of go-fast cars hooking up.
I have to refine my burnout technique. It would be an advantage to have a buddy there to help me determine that I've gotten them smoking. You have to roll through the water to get to the starting line. Doing it alone has its drawbacks.
Check out the tires and wheels on this 350Z youtube vid.

That's what I want. 11.7 @ 111mph is getting off the line. (Those crazy Bahrain drag guys never stop spending money and have a luxurious track to use!)
Glad you guys are interested.

Jimmy watched the vid and, like me, was convinced it simply needs more initial traction now.
We just ordered (2) Enkei 18"x10" rims, and BF Goodrich drag radials (295/35x18). (Stock: 19"x8" and 245x19")
We were told we could not go to a smaller rim, due to the brake caliper clearance.
Overall tire diameter will be reduced by almost an inch, but that's OK: I still had a lot of 4th left. This is a good addition.
I will get the car in to be fitted later this week, but I won't be able to test for another couple of weeks due to work.
Elevens are in my future. I promise.

I lied--or simply changed my mind.
The rims looked SO good, we ordered a matching set of taller 18" street fronts. I actually prefer the look of more tire sidewall. (and the touch softter ride). Once installed, I'll post a photo.
Don't have time for a time trial, but I'll be looking good.
