$1,660 to Replace Rear Stay?

Hoping someone can give me some clarity if I’m getting a bad dealer quote here. 2011 G37 with 90k miles. Needs the the “stay assembly - rear suspension member” replaced as it’s rusted through. Part 55451-ju40b.

https://www.infinitipartsdeal.com/pa...PREMIUM;5=7AT)

It looks like it is held on with (4) bolts and I could do it myself with a socket wrench in an hour. Am I missing something here?

See pic: Issue in yellow. Bolt locations in green.

Looks like I can get the part for $100-$150.

Dealer won’t give me any clarity on what is involved for the $1,500 either. Should I get the part and take it somewhere to bolt it on or is this actually a really involved project that takes almost (9) hours?

Side note: Entire underside is in suitable condition in terms of other rust, this part seems like substandard material?

I would say you can probably do it. I plan to do mine also. I am not sure if the two end nuts help hold the rear part of the subframe, but once it ssupported by a jack it shoudn't be hard to loosen.

It also seems you mgiht be able to snake it out without removing the exhaust. but even then, the exhaust isn't a biggie.

If the dealer is not willing to provide you with a detailed estimate of repair- including parts and labor costs- then find another shop.

I do not know all that is involved, but as Panda alluded, you should be able to do the repair yourself provided you have the proper tools (ie. jack stands). Just thoroughly inspect everything under there to make sure you can do it without any surprises or safety concerns.

Ask yourself if what is the most technical you've ever gotten with a car.
Being able to remove and replace your brakes should be enough experience to tackle this job.
The difference will be in arm strenght, tools and the cooperation of rusted components.

These braces are common to rust so the replacement you find I would inspect for rust and or paint the new piece prior to installation or it will suffer the same fate.

Devil's advocate; what if the retaining bolts are too rusty to come off and break. Will you know what to do?

Yeah Infiniti.

Yeah that was my concern too if I got stuck. Just went back to Pep Boys. They are going to do the labor for $108 when I get the part in. Sooo... $1,660 vs ~$250. Yeah Infiniti...

I have the same issue but my only problem is the area where you bolt the two middle bolts is completely rusted. If I un-do them it will probably break the mounting area. What should I do? weld a piece of metal?

Exclamation middle mounting point for rear subframe stay brace rusted away

sorry to resurrect this but did you ever figure this out? my car had the same issue and I tried to get it out and it broke free from the mounting points. I'm replacing the rear sub-frame as well so it will come free now but I have nowhere to mount the rear sub-frame stay brace, is there anything I can do besides cut it out and weld in new mounting points?
