Help Humming Noise
Humming Noise
I’ve always been able to consult these forums, and always can find the solution, but I’m stuck.
A few weeks ago, my 2015 Q40 (RWD) hit a curb on the driver front wheel. Only going about 10-13 MPH. It was a good jolt, but nothing extreme.
The following day, while traveling down the highway, I hear a humming noise. I assumed that the front left bearing was damaged, and had it replaced. The noise persisted, exactly as before.
I then thought to have the wheels rotated, even though I didn’t think it was coincidence that the noise suddenly appeared after hitting the curb.
The tire rotation changed nothing. Took the car back to the mechanic who inspected the remaining bearings: no play, no grinding, nothing wrong with them. They even had 3 folks at the shop look at it. They can’t figure it out.
The noise remains whether in drive or neutral, and is easiest to hear when you accelerate to 50, then let off the gas and decelerate to 30. The noise is less noticeable when on the gas or at highway speeds, as a result of exhaust and engine noise.
This evening, I removed the tire that hit the curb and put on the spare, just to make sure it wasn’t a bad tire. The noise is still there. The mechanics all heard it, but can’t figure it out.
Any ideas?
