Thumping/ flat tire-like noise

Car: 2008 g37s RWD 5 speed AT 64k miles

Hello everyone,

I was driving to work earlier when I heard this flat tire -like noise. So I pulled over and inspected all 4 properly inflated tires. The noise was coming from the front passenger side and tempo increases when I accelerate. I also could feel each beat/thump on the steering wheel and pedals. I recall driving over a pothole last night but I never heard any thumping noise then - drove about 15 mins. Any ideas what went bad?

Check your tread. You probably picked up a nail or a bolt or something. It happens... pretty normal stuff. Frustrating, sure, but normal.

It could be wedged in the tread, although odds are it jammed right into the tire. If you're lucky, it will maintain a good enough seal for you to get to the tire shop.

Could also be tread separation.

Youre right. Found a square socketed screw. Ive checked the tire pressure and its at 32 psi. So i think im losing air but slowly. Hopefully its still salvageable.

If the puncture is away from the sidewalls, tire shops will patch it. You could also plug it successfully with the little cloth plug/unvulcanized rubber/glue kits.

Honestly, plugging does work, but it's not even really worth it any more. People may hate on it, but Walmart will patch it for $10. That includes taking the tire off, dismounting, patching, remounting, balancing, and reinstalling.

My mom recently asked me to check her tires out because her low pressure light had come on, she stopped and filled the tire indicated low, and the light was on again before she got home. Upon inspection I found where she had picked up a nail. Her tires are almost new and once I found out about the price at Walmart I told her to put air in it before she left for town and she'd be fine. $10.60 (after tax) she had a patched tire.

Just went through this myself, on brand new friggin tires!

Found these embedded in the tread section of each rear tire

These are about 3/8" deep. Not quite deep enough to puncture the tire. So far it's holding pressure, but I check weekly. I did fill up the hole with some sealant to keep water and dirt from getting in. So far so good.
