Some questions for the brake gurus

Hey everyone, I've owned my G for a few weeks now and I noticed when I bought it there was some brake shuddering. Today I pulled off all 4 wheels and took a look to see what could be causing it. All corners except the front passenger side looked good. The inside pad has about 1/3 less pad life than the outer pad. Not sure if this would inflict the shuddering (tolerable but annoying). I plan on replacing the the front pads and having the rotors resurfaced. So on to my questions.

1. What could cause the uneven wear? Is there something that needs greased? The pistons pushed back with ease.
2. OEM or aftermarket pads? I've read on a few post about OEM rotors & pads etc.
3. What brand could someone recommended? This is for daily driving with spirited runs. I've heard StopTechs are decent.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

At 31k miles yo9ur rotors should still have enough material to give them a turn and install just a new set of pads. There may be excess uneven pad deposits on the rotors that are giving you the vibration. It's possible the previous owner had a piston hang up long enough to cause the uneven wear, or one of those pistons may have some corrosion causing it not release as well as the others causing the pad to drag a bit.
I like the Stoptech Street pads, they dust more than oem pads but the added bite is a worthwhile tradeoff IMO.

As far as grease, the CRC caliper grease is a good product and should be applied to all metal on metal moving parts like the pins and pad clips that contact the pad plates. Also grease between the backing plates and pistons, and if shims are used a light coat between the shim and pad backer, and a slightly thicker coat on top of the shim (that rests on the pistons).

Be sure to bed in your pads as per the pad brands' recommendations. And since this G is new to you I'd do a complete brake fluid flush, the moisture will really decrease the boiling point in brake fluid so a simple top-off isn't the best way to go.

blnewt, thanks for the response, your pretty fast! I'm willing to give the Stoptech pads a shot and I'll flush the brake fluid as well. Dot 3 or 4? OEM fluid? Are the rotors a bear to get off? I noticed the threaded hole, possibly 10 or 12mm. My civic and tsx have those stupid Phillips head bolts that require a solid impact blow to get them off.

I use Valvoline DOT 4 Synthetic, works well. As far as removing the rotors, YMMV depending on what they've been subjected to. I had to use the threaded hole (IIRC it's a 10mm) for one of my back rotors but all the others came off w/ a rubber mallet.
Amazon or rockauto.com has good pricing on the Stoptech pads

Stoptech Street Pads are a nice choice IMO & IME. They dust more than oem but have nice bite, just need to be sure to bed in as per Stoptechs procedure
