1700 to lower my G37x coupe

I recently bought a set of 20 inch rims, and was wanting to lower my car so it didn't look like its been lifted. So I called a local custom shop, and asked them how much it was going to cost to lower it an inch or two, and he replied 1700 dollars, my head almost exploded.

He said I needed upper control arms front, and back, camber kits front, and back, and the springs which where 400 dollars.

This seems way over priced to me, I have a 2010 G37x coupe and am hoping someone can tell me exactly what I need and don't need.

It's about $1000 for parts to do it properly, $700 for the install is a bit much though.
$250-300 for springs, $500 for F&R camber kit + rear toe bolts, $125 for alignment + tax and you're at $1k. There's DIY threads for doing the install yourself, or most of it, so you could get much closer to $1k.

Springs (new) - $300
Labor for install - $200
Front Camber Kits (New) - $350
Rear Camber Kits (new) - $175
Labor for install - $100-150
alignment varies. can put you at oem specs at any chain place for $89... custom alignment to specs you want about $175

all in with new parts - $1200. you can find used parts i'm sure that are in decent condition. If you dont mind being slightly out of spec, go with eibach springs to drop it and don't put camber kits on. your camber will be slightly out of spec but the extra camber might make your wheels fit better, depending on the offset you went with. there are various threads for all the different spring options for our cars. some are mild like eibach or swift and some are more extreme for that slammed look, like H&R.

coilovers are a whole other game.. ~$1200 for coils, ~$400 for install, $500 for camber kits, $150 for install, $89/175 for alignment.

camber kits and control arms are the same thing, fwiw.

looking good or going fast is not cheap.

From: Framingham Ma,
Depending on the drop you can get away with out the camber kit for a little bit,
I went Swift springs( Great drop) and am also running 20's got my alignment don't and wasn't that far off. Will be doing a camber kit in the spring. My 20's come off in Oct for the winter.

Find another shop. Lowering springs are pretty straightforward to install. I installed Eibachs on my car. Did it in my driveway, by myself, took me about 2.5 hrs. 1.5 inch drop is not a big deal on these cars. Yes, it will gain about 2-2.5 negative camber, mostly in the rear wheels, but thats not a huge deal, even for a daily drive.

I was trying to DIY for my Eibach lowering springs this weekend and boy was it fun. The g37x coupe has the huge freaking fork at the bottom of strut which was incredibly hard to remove. The bolt was hard to remove and the strut was hard to remove...ran into so many problems...Was trying to do this at a friend's house, ran out of time so I had to install the OEM springs back and now I have this stupid "bop bop" sound when I drive. I am now currently looking for a local shop to do this for me...anyone know someone in Philly that can install this for sub 300 including alignment? Would really appreciate it.

Try compressing the shock while removing the bolt then let the tension out slowly after getting it out

I just had mine lowered today and aligned for 300 dollars but then again, he was my co-worker's friend who works at a dealership and did it for me under the table. I inquired for several quotes from different places before I had this connection. This one place tried to charge me 800 for lowering and alignment for straight up labor. Another place charged 540 (with alignment) labor only and one place in S. Philly charged 380 without alignment labor only as well. Right now my rear cambers are -2.4° and -3.1°, do I need camber kits? The front cambers are -0.8° and -1.4°.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I was lucky enough to get use of a hoist when installing my Eibach's on my 09 G37x. IIRC, we had to take apart that fork to get the strut out. It took more time than it would have without an AWD vehicle, but we got it done.

My alignment is similar, I believe. I was told that the only reason I would need a camber kit is for uneven tire wear, and so far I've put on several thousand miles and haven't noticed anything.

The correct solution would be to install the camber kit. Those specs are nowhere close to what they are supposed to be. Or the alignment Tech, is not that good??
