Wear versus Cost Chart Comparison

Folks - I did a comparison of wear versus price and the Kumhos are at the top. Has any had any experience with these tires? Attached is the chart I did to compare

I thought treadwear ratings were vendor specific? As in you can only use them to compare tires from the same vendor...

What you did there is a relative indication of cost per mile for the tires, presuming that each manufacturer's rating is somewhat comparable to one another. As mentioned in the previous post, treadwear ratings are manufacturer specific so they are only meant to compare one tire to another within the same brand. A Michelin 300 might wear better or worse than a Continental 300; there's no way to tell.

Your comparison only determines cost per mile to operate. It doesn't factor performance in at all. If your sole determining factor is the cheapest to operate, then you have accomplished finding that.

As far as the tire that has the cheapest cost per mile in your chart, they are absolute crap performance wise.

Thanks for the feedback on the Kumhos. I makes sense to go with more of the name brand since I did not see anyone raving about those tires.

If you are looking for a good value tire, I have the General G Max on my beater and I found them surprisingly better than I expected. I bought them for an all around tire because of price and because performance doesn't matter much to me on my old car because I rarely drive it. They are better than I expected and cheap.

I certainly wouldn't call Kumho a 'no-name' brand! They have been around for over 50 years and make some decent tires.

The ones you listed are not their performance tires but I have been running Kumho KU31's for 2 years and they have been great. I've put about 16,000 miles on them and they now need changing but that includes a hell of a lot of very hard driving (chasing GTR's, Evo's, WRX's through the hills). Also included a semi track day on a very tight track where I was learning the limits of the car and had the tail out on almost every corner.

For the price they are a damn good tire and grip like all hell. They have kept me on the road whilst chasing many much lighter cars and i would buy them again in a heart beat.

Edit: Please keep in mind that I live in a city that has temps well above 70 for the majority of the year and doesn't get a hell of a lot of rain!
