Got new wheels, how do I tell if I still have TPMs??

I got new wheels over the weekend and it just occurred to me that I might not have Tire Pressure Monitors anymore. I took my car to a shop to get the wheels put on (I ordered them from the same shop) and it didn't occur to me to ask them to take the TPM out of the old tires and put them in the new ones. I assumed this was a given, but I don't know.

When I got my take offs back they still had air in them and that is what leads me to believe the sensors were never switched. Although I'm receiving the butt symbol (_!_) so I don't for sure. Is there any way to tell definitively???

If they never dismounted your old tires, they are still attached to the old wheels. They have to remove the tires to get the the TPMS inside. C'mon man, that's common sense.

Just bring your old wheels back to the shop and have them swap the TMPS over to your new wheels. Don't forget to post pictures of your new wheels.

I understood that you had to dismount the tires but I just figured maybe they could have removed the sensors and then remounted the tires or something. It seems odd that they would just send me out the door without TPMs. I guess they don't owe me anything, but still. Also since I wasn't getting any error on the dash I wanted to double check.

You can normally tell if it's a regular TPMS looking at the valve stem. Is there a sensor nut? Take a picture of the valve stem so we can see. If ! light is on and your tire pressure is fine..your tpms might not have been transferred, reset/mounted properly, or damaged.

Is it even worth checking? Like Black Betty suggested if they gave me my take offs mounted should I assume they never dismounted them? Or is feasible that they would take the tires off and then remount them? If its worth checking I'll take a pic on my lunch break, but if its not there I'm going to have to call the shop and sort this out. Seems like a pretty standard procedure to leave me with TMPs

They wouldn't know or assume to swap the TPMS over to the new wheels unless you asked them to.

Your OEM TPMS are most likely still in your take off OEM wheels. Most shops will ask when buying new wheels/tires if there are any TPMS involved. And if so, charge installation mounting of the new wheels accordingly. Not that it's a hard process to do, however it is more time spent on your car and most shops have a higher install price because of the extra time involved. They should have known to ask automatically, especially since you have a late model luxury car, but like BB said, maybe the shop you went to doesn't assume such and figures the customer will mention it if they want them swapped. With regards whether they dismounted your oem tires, took out the TPMS, and remounted your oem tires with valvestems and then gave you the take off wheels, anything is possible, but highly unlikely. It is worth to check however if you are unsure because oem TPMS are not cheap. Easiest way to tell is by looking at the valve stem. If it looks like brushed metal with a nut on the end near the wheel lip, that's TPMS. If its just black rubber or maybe with a chrome sleeve, that's just a regular valve stem. If your TPMS are in your oem wheels, and you can maintain pressures on your aftermarket wheels and live with the light, then your done. If not, then you will most likely have to pay again to have both oem and new sets of wheels dis mounted and remounted again, this time with the TPMS....

Here's the nut, doesn't appear to be a sensor tho. Honestly I can't tell...but I don't have a warning light on.

Make sure they reinstall them with a new hardware kit (gaskets and such) so they don't leak.

This is really odd then cuz mine looks the same, but like several have mentioned it would have been odd for them to remove my old sensor and remount the tire without asking:

The picture you posted are what the valve stems on the OEM TPMS look like. Those don't appear to be brand new valve stems. Do you have brand new rubber valve stems on your old wheels you took off? If so, then it would appear that they did dismount your old tires, remove the TPMS, and place them in the new wheels. Make like Colombo and do some detective work and figure this out. Use the clues.

Yah im going to check when I get home. If the old tires have rubber stems then I expect apologies from you and GTLAW. Remeber there's no such thing as a stupid question...I'm gettin my learn on.
