Question Painting calipers??

Hey guys, so before i get yee old "go search for it"..i already have! but have not come across a 100% answer because I've seen a diff method in each video/write up. Long story short, i am planning on painting my calipers, but i want to get the best prep work executed: after cleaning, some people go right in and start painting, meanwhile others scuff the caliper and then paint, and then other don't scuff but use a primer and then paint.... Anyone have any first hand experience and know what the best method is?? What if I were to (obviously clean thoroughly first) scuff with a wire brush, prime, and then paint, etc? Any info would be great, thanks!!

i cleaned with caliper cleaner with a small wire brush, then painted directly with like 3 or 4 coats of caliper high temp paint. followed by 4-5 coats of high temp engine clear after sticker application.

so far no issues. i have driven it pretty hard since and have had zero issues with how i did it.

I used the G2 brake painting kit from amazon, and i think it turned out great. I just took the wheels off, masked off the rotors, and painted the calipers with the paint. The included brush is good for about 2 calipers, then you need a new one, so any of those little bristle brushes from michaels, home depot, lowes, would work fine. 1 can of paint in this kit let me put about 3 coats per caliper on and i still had 1/4 of paint left.

hey guys, bringin my own thread back to life a little bit because i never followed through. Just to clarify, when people say "clean" with a wire brush/caliper cleaner, is it mearly cleaning, or somewhat scuffing as well for paint to stick? And is a primer necessary? Thanks!

If you've got the non-sport calipers the cast iron is a good base for the paint, just a good wire brush cleaning w/ a good grease remover is fine, then go over the just cleaned caliper w/ rubbing alcohol right before you paint. I kept my calipers on and masked the rotors, hoses, etc. I used VHT caliper paint and it's been a couple years and they still look good w/ a Infiniti logo sticker (no clear coat). The main reason I left the calipers on other than being lazy is you can drive the car immediately and heat up the brakes so you cure the paint. The VHT needs to be baked to fully cure so a good healthy drive after spraying really does the trick.

I sanded mine down and applied paint directly without primer. A little over 3 years later it's held up fairly well even with occasional track duty. I do have a couple minor chips on the backside.

If I had the sport brakes I'd give them the premium treatment (taking off calipers & following Soundmikes' advice). Can't you tell I'm jealous of your BBK

I'm jealous of your wheels and meaty tires. So, yeah, we're even.
