I was at a Tires Plus yesterday...

I was with one of my friends at Tires Plus yesterday because she knows nothing about cars and I didn't want the place trying to sell her a service she didn't need. When I was there, another person was at the counter with a wheel and I had no idea what they were doing but I saw one of the techs trying to measure the offset of the wheel.

He takes a plastic sleeve, holds it to the back edge of the rim and proceeds to take a measuring tape to the mounting surface of the wheel. He measures the mounting surface of the wheel to the back edge of the wheel (using the plastic sleeve as a guide) gets a measurement in inches, converts it to centimeters, and then converts it to millimeters. He tells the guy....it's got 133 mm offset!! I proceed to say, that's not how you measure offset but they ignore me! wow...

You would think that at minimum, working at a place called TIRES PLUS, you would know what the offset is!

And to add to that, when my friend called to get her tires mounted, they asked her right away if she wanted an alignment. Nice...

Most places hire the cheapest tard they can find. Doesn't matter that they don't know anything about their job as long as they will work for peanuts.

Sounds like he was measuring the backspacing of the wheel instead of the offset. That's usually measured in inches rather than millimeters.

definitely wasn't backspacing...i just stood there and thought to myself "I'm never calling these guys for anything".

I even approached the customer as he was leaving and told him to google how to measure offset and that he woudn't never see a 133mm offset..unless it was a tractor wheel lol.
