HELP: Front screeching sound
HELP: Front screeching sound
I recently bought a 2008 G37S and about 1 month after buying it the front started making a loud screeching sound when I brake. Similar to the sound when brake pads are wearing low, which I thought it was at first but just took my car in and they said the front pads are fine but the back needed to be replaced.
I replaced the back pads but the noise is coming from the front like I told the guy at the auto shop, he didn't know what it was since the pads seem fine.
The noise only happens when I slowly brake. If I brake hard, or even moderately hard it doesn't make a sound, only when very lightly braking. Any help or input would be appreciated. Or if anyone has had a similar problem what did you do to fix it?
I would like to not get cheated by a mechanic again, just spent 200 dollars to have a problem fixed that they didn't fix.
Thank you in advance for any advice, I've read these forums a lot and everyone seems extremely courteous and helpful.

Pads might have plenty of material left, but may not be fully secure in the caliper. Are there visible shims present on the pads? When you brake with light pressure, the pads are vibrating, resulting in the noise you hear.
No I don't have any previous service records. I personally didn't look at the pads, perhaps I'll do that this weekend. Thank you both for the input I'll make sure they are secure when I look at them.
