Hey guys, I’m having an issue with my Coupe. So I changed the brakes (rotors and pads) all around, 3 weeks back because the car would shake when I brake. So the issue is that the shake came back. Just 1 week later after changing the brakes. I’ve searched on the forum and on the FB group and my conclusion is that the calipers might be the issue. I think the new rotors might be warped.
Any help/suggestions?
Negative on warped rotors. Unless you've driven down a mountain while pressing the brakes the whole way down then sat at a ten-minute stop light at the bottom, then your rotors aren't warped.
What people called warped rotors are actually uneven brake pad deposits on the rotor causing pulsations in the pedal. Six to eight hard stops from 60 mph will fix that. Don't come to a complete stop, tough. Do that before doing anything else.
in addition to what Slarti mentioned, if you try that it and it doesnt fix it may be a stuck or dragging caliper.
You can buy rebuild kits for about 20-30dollars (per caliper) on rock auto if you have the base or sport calipers and feel you are upto it.
alternatively you can get fully rebuilt calipers for the base models starting around 50 dollars (I think)...for the sport brakes you can get rebuilt calipers for about 120-250 depending on front or back and if you don't mind repainting. Ebay and rock auto and the classifieds her are good resources for those.
Make sure the calipers are sliding on the pins. If the slide pins (under the rubber boots) are corroded, the calipers won't slide and can cause shake when braking. You can get new pins and boots or just try cleaning and re-greasing them.
