Have a bent driver inner tie rod... cannot find proper replacement... have tried a few inner tie rods and all are too big to fit with the steering rack.

2008 G37 S Coupe

Steering rack was replaced in 2012 with 49001-JL07E

for whatever reason the inner tie rod ends are smaller on this one. Anyone else run into this? dealer is useless...

thats odd...I know these cars changed steering racks like every three months when they were manufactured so theres tons of part numbers for the racks, but there should only be two sizes (one for the sport, quicker ratio) and one for everything else...maybe try measuring the part you have here and posting it ... will lead to some answers...

 

I recently replaced my inner & outer tie rods on my 2011 Coupe. This was the inner tie rod that worked for me. It states that it should fit 2011+.

One option is to buy each of the possible tie rods and return the ones that dont fit. Moog parts are rock solid.

I see on one site it says that part # is for 2011 G37 so maybe start with that year

To answer the questions directly, there are two sizes of threading used in g37's, M18x1 and M16x1. It depends on both model year (rack year really) and sport vs non-sport, though. It seems earlier years with sport(though some without) used the M18x1(which is used by the 370z, it's the same tie rod) and later years (build date 5/2010 and later) were all moved to the M16x1. Again, this is all just observation from looking through many different parts and the applications.

Your best bet is to measure you rack side stud prior to ordering and base the order on the model year that the size fits into (aka if you have a 2012 but it measures M18, then order a pre 2011 tie rod)

 

Bullsh-t! I literally put their inner tierods on 6 days ago and one is metal to metal clanking and the other has a sliver of play.
