That's contrary to information I was given. I'd call to clarify and ask to speak to Sales Mgr Scott. He seemed more knowledgeable regarding an X application than anyone else I spoke to at Stance. 1 847 290-1568 ext 113.

To replace dampers requires disassembly of the shock to remove the damper. Then upon reassembly you'll have to adjust the proper spring tension.

 

I got this far and now unsure how to separate the Damper. Please let me know how you got it out. Thanks

 

Remove the top hat and I think you're done.

 

Remove the large center nut on the top hat. On reinstall ensure the lower gold metal bearing is clamped down. That requires proper torquing of that large center nut. If not properly torqued that bearing will freely rotate around the shaft and provide you with a constant pinging sound. The bearing's function is to keep the tophat secured in its location against the shaft. It keeps the shaft from poking thru the tophat. The proper torque specification is 35 lbs.

I'm no mechanic, and paid to have my c/o's installed. I was informed by one installer that the XR1 is unique as "most c/o's do not have that freely spinning bearing."

As a result of my first installer not torquing down that center nut it was then I learned that the XR1 is not shipped to install. The c/o requires proper setup BEFORE installation. So I found a different shop and even they weren't aware that that center nut requires a 35 lb torquing.

Got my replacement's today and they are a bit longer at 9.5" , will it be a problem that they are not 10.5" like the ones you received? thanks again!

Update, i had to send back the 9.5" dampers i got and got the zinc coated ones that are 10.5"! Will finally be able to install my coils even though summer is ending, what a bummer. But i still think i need to install them and keep them a bit below stock height as my OEM shocks/struts are in need of replacement. Thanks for this thread Coltrane1! You sure helped me and a few others avoid the hefty fees for installing/removing the coils. Thank you sir.

Coltrane1, Can you comment on the ride quality being that you've had the coil overs for a few months now?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on these coils, but I'm still on the fence about how much ride quality is going to change.

I've had cars in the past with coil overs, but they weren't my daily driver.

 

Hey! It was not built to be a daily driver. I've not put 500 miles on the car since the install. That said, be prepared for a much stiffer ride than stock...and prepared to negotiate bumps, etc, etc, etc

Would I do it over again? Yes, and no, the no due to $3500 investment simply to lower this G...a great percentage of that for install costs.

Installed finally! Stance true setup with SPL toe and camber arms. Ride height was 26” from fender line to the ground and had to adjust it as I always scraped when entering my driveway. Raised it to 26.5 and it’s perfect. Sucks I can lower the front anymore due to the driveway slope. Attached a picture to show how much clearance I have when driving down to the garage. I have the updated dampers so I can raise the rear higher if I wanted.

 

Looking good at 26.5, making your daily drives (not to mention your driveway issues) that much easier is worth that extra half inch IMO. I went up from 25.75 to 26.25 when I went w/ coils several years ago and never looked back
