Front ball joint integrated into control arm?

Hi all,

I went to get an alignment after installing my winter tires, and found out, to my great disappointment, that my front drivers' side ball joint has way too much play. So, it needs replacement. I crawled underneath with the tech, and it was the first chance I've had a good look at the suspension since I bought the car. It appears that the joint is integrated into the lower control arm? Can someone verify that this is in fact correct? I need to order a replacement ASAP before I chew through my tires or worse, and I want to know I am ordering the right part...

I did a search both on Google, and internal to site, and found no relevant info on this...

EDIt: this is the lower ball joint

That is correct.

I would definitely get a second opinion, as there is no load on the upper ball joint. The lower would wear first.

What year, and mileage??

To check the upper ball joint, you must support the lower arm, wheel off the ground, and check for axial play.
You would grab the tire and rock it in and out, any play in the joint needs replacement.
NOT up and down play.

Hi guys,

Yep, sorry, this is the lower ball joint, so, by extension, the lower control arm?

The vehicle was run into a curb a few days ago (stupid stupid stupid decision to let friend try the car), and there is definitely in and out play.

The vehicle is a 2008, with 70,000km on the odo.

box 4 is the lower ball joint
the upper ball joint is in #16 in the UCA

i second the decision to get a second opinion.
play can be caused by different parts of the suspension. other possibilities could be the wheel bearing or bushing failures

Hey guys,
Sorry to bring this post up from the dead.

I have recently damaged my front suspension and my mechanic needs me to replace the LOWER BALL JOINT. Does anyone know where I can find the part number?

I live in Sydney and looking to source the part from Japan for the Skyline V36.

Can anyone help, or point me to where I can find what I am looking for?

Cheers

do you know what it looks like?

if what i'm thinking is correct, then read my last post, the one RIGHT above yours. it's the blue box. look for it in the FSM, might be able to trace you to a part number
