Failed Akebono Install By Forum Member
Hey Guys,
I recently sold my Candy Red Akebono's to another forum member here. The brakes came off my 2008 G35xS & had less that 5000 miles on them when they were removed.
Hey they are on the car & when they were removed.

Now to explain this entire ordeal...
This member was supposed to be installing the brakes this morning and I said if he needed assistance just to txt me. He claims he had a infiniti certified tech do the install. So at 7am i start get txt coming in that nothing lines up, brake fluid is leaking everywhere and that the calipers wont fit without brackets and he wants a refund. He sends me some dark pics that I cant make anything out on and says that the front brake line wont fit and he would have to zip tie. He sends me a pic of the caliper, with the OEM bolt forced into the caliper.
Here is what he sent me...

Now anyone who has Akebono's or done the install know the bolts are a different size and pitch than OEM. He took the OEM bolt from his 2011 Awd Caliper and forced it into this Akebonos. He also says that the Akebonos wont fit his car which is a 2011 xS sedan, that they need special brackets. I know this is false because our cars come with Akebono's. "I have a 2012 and had I not just purchased new brakes these would have been on my car."
So instead of asking for my assistance he starts off threatening me demanding a refund. Its not the 1st time he has crossed the lines with me this week but ill come back to that.
This member has zero experience working on his car and had a million questions which im usually fine with, most of the guys who have questions I am more than willing to try and help out but this individual took it to a whole new level. I hate having to repeat myself and this guy is a salesman, he constantly asks the same questions 5 different ways and expects a different answer. Its quite annoying...
First and formost, HE DIDNT HAVE THE FUNDS TO BUY THE KIT IN THE 1ST PLACE. He sends me a ridiculous lowball attempt and when I laugh it off, calls and sends me 4 txt the same night. Saying he wants to buy them right away and needs them soon.
So the next day when I talk to him again he trys to lowball me. It started to irrate me and I told him I wasnt budging, this A-hole tells me " There's no negotiating with you " and then starts asking for free shipping. We go back and forth and finally he swears he's serious so I said I would ship them for free which is effectively $100 off the cost.
After all of that, then he comes clean that he doesnt have all the money and would like me to post it on eBay so he can use his eBay credit card so he can get 6months interest free. I wasnt happy about listing this on eBay but I said if he covered the eBay & paypal fee's that was fine. I created the listing and he purchased them. He immediately started calling and txting me again wondering when I would ship them out. That he needs them by friday and all this other garbage. Mind you this is the same guy who just tried to lowball me twice, had a million and one incorrect ideas and information about the install and kept calling me while I was at work to clarify how to install the brakes. And DIDNT HAVE THE MONEY BUT STILL WANTED FREE SHIPPING.
I had a bad feeling about this guy in general and he really pissed me off. But its business and I dont have to like you to do business with you so I completed the transaction.
2 days later I am prepping the brakes, I washed them but it wasnt clean enough for me, guess its my OCD. So I started polishing & waxing them trying to be nice. I send him pics showing me working and onced dried I was gona ship. I wasnt expecting anything in return other than a "Thanks Bro" or " Good Looking Out"
This guy reply's " So when are you shipping". No thanks, no nothing! I went off.... I didnt have to spend my time polishing and waxing them Just wash, pack and ship. Its cool I just want this transaction to be over with.

I shipped out the items in 3 boxes, 1. Calipers, 2. Front rotors, 3. Rear rotors & lines. I had a bad feeling about this guy so I spent extra money to add insurance just in case in BS happened. So he txt me saying that the boxes came in but the rotor boxes are damaged from USPS. The calipers were fine... I requested pics of the boxes so I can address is with USPS, he then asks if im filing a claim and if so can he expect a partial refund... WTF??? NO!! You claim the boxes were damaged but are more concerned if your gona get something back.... Needless to say I never got those damaged box pics!
Now that brings me to this morning....
From the question asked and the pictures show I am confident that this guy has absolutely no idea how to install brakes. He didnt have a tech help him or at least a competent one. His tech thought he had to replace all the brake lines under the car and kept sending me pics asking why he has to do that. And why he had to cut the rotors and not the dust shield. Just a millions dumb questions. I even referred him to Soundmikes website to install help.
But does he do his research.... Of course not! He wakes me up demanding a refund when its 100 % clear he f-ked up the install on his own. He doesnt even get on here to ask question or for help. Just a refund! I am not issuing a refund and will fight this.
I told him I would be posting this thread & says he doesnt care which is fine. But I wont let some dumbass tarnish my reputation on the forums/eBay/paypal just because he is incompetent.
I havent posted his user name yet but if you saw my FS thread then you can easily figure out who this guy is.
He are pics of them right before they shipped.

Sounds like a scam in progress to me. Wouldnt surprise me if he files a claim with ebay. Ebay sides with the buyer because they always do. And you'll get a box back with his old brakes.
Hell no but here we go...
I wont, I called paypal this morning. He just filled his complaint now

Wow seems like you tried to be a great seller(clean and wax)calipers and being helpful!! Some people you just cant help though, If he wont listen to reason. good luck with this man. oh and nice wheels!
I have had a poor selling experience with this buyer as well a long time ago. I was silly enough to take a fellow forum member and G owner at his word and ship parts while he still owed me part of the payment. Needless to say I was an idiot for not listening to my inner voice that said that was a horrible idea. Trusting someone on the Internet to honor their word in a money transaction is about as smart as having unprotected sex with a $20 hooker - either way you are very likely to get burned. I did, he stil owes me $50.
Sorry you dealt with this scumbag too. Prepare to get screwed by his stupidity because he's too dumb to know how to install the part. Let me know if I can help with PayPal. I really doubt it will make any difference, but I've had a premier business account for a long time with them and I'll speak on your behalf and show them this clown has a history of trying to cheat people out of money or product. Maybe they'll tell him to take a hike. I doubt it though.
Good luck.

I have one question, did the calipers come with the right hardware (banjo bolts, etc)? Now, any competent tech knows that if you can't get a bolt started into a threaded hole, especially one in a caliper, there must be a mismatch. Brake hardware usually threads in very smoothly and requires minimal effort until you actually torque it down.
That aside, i feel your pain, albeit on a smaller scale. Dealing with a buyer who bought one of the clutch pedal springs, then claims it doesn't fit his car. It too was an ebay listing where I listed the model years applicable, and included high res pictures of the pedal assembly (taken from my own car). Anyone with a full set of marbles up top would have at least peeked under their dash to see if what they had matched up [before ordering]....
Good luck!
