Rust forming near brake rotor - is that normal?
I took out my winter tyres this week and noticed that on my rear left side there's a lot of rust forming near the brake rotor. Not the rotor itself but the "middle" part of it. I don't know the name, so here's a picture of what I mean (never mind the text/arrow):

I've seen lots of cars with something similar going on, so I am not sure if it's just brake dust or something similar forming there or if it's actual rust that will eat up my car.

Yes. Mine look the same. It's just suface layer, not a sign of corrosion. If you were putting on new rotors, it should be removed so that the rotor sits as true as possible. I scraped mine off with a little wire brush.
Whoops edit: thought that was your hub. Your hub will look the same and is also normal.

On a lot of vehicles the surface rust just about welds the wheels onto the rotors, making it very hard to break the wheels loose when removing them. I always wire brush any surface rust and apply some spray silicon or Vaseline in the area that develops rust. That way the wheels come loose real easy when you rotate them.
