+1 mine also does the same. I figured it was warped rotors, but it doesn't do it all the time.

it doesn't seem to happen at lower speeds or with really moderate braking at highway speeds. happens primarily when braking from highway speeds to anything below 30ish.

When does it happen with you?

Guys there is a TSB for brake shutter at higher speeds. Got my pads and rotors replaced under warranty because of this TSB. Dealer should cover it under warranty if your VIN fits within those affected.

They also add a backplate to the rotors to help cool them and prevent future warping.

Almost positive the VIN isn't within the range of those affected, however shudder is clearly evident.

Think they'll still honor the TSB and resurface the rotors under warranty?

I use EBC Red Stuff. It has virtually no dust and excellent bite..

if you are experiencing any shimmy, shake, vibration, shutter, wobble, or whatever else when braking at or near highway speeds, go to your dealer with the "brake judder" TSB in-hand. I began feeling it at about 15K miles and it progressively got worse. Took it in at 18K and they turned the rotors and installed the new backing plates for better cooling. Three weeks later I was back with the same problem occuring (probably due to a poor job of turning the old rotors) at slower speeds and they replaced the rotors and pads without question. Mine is an '09s sedan. No further issues & it's buttery smooth from any speed to a complete stop....the way it should be.

if you're having this issue, you owe it to yourself and your G to have it repaired correctly....and that means NEW rotors & pads. Don't fall for the resurfacing/turning BS....that just further reduces the life of your rotors that should not have had the problem in the first place. Make a stink about it and have it done right the first time. Wish I had, would've saved me the hassle of going back for the same issue.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip! Was all those "repairs" free? Also I currently need my G for everyday commute does anyone know if they dealers offer free loaners?

Thanks

FWIW, I was told that the existing backing shield acutally directs water onto the rotor and causes it to warp. The new shield being installed under the TSB is a revised design to keep water off. I didn't see either shield so i can't comment as to whether this is BS or not.

Does anybody with the Sport brakes just buy the OEM pads to replace? They seem comparable (maybe even slightly less) in price to the Hawk Ceramics. Just in terms of buying parts from one of the online OEM parts dealers, not actually getting replaced at the dealership.

Or are the aftermarket pads better?

I'm not a fan of the OEM pads in my sedan for 2 reasons -- they are grabby (especially in low speed, stop-and-go traffic) and they throw off a ton of dust. My wheels are brown after a week of driving.

My car has 11k on it and I'm already thinking about trying some new pads.

Too early to report here on our 2010 since brakes hopefully won't need replacing for a while, but I can say that the Hawks were much, much better than OEM on our 2003 G. At least twice the life and much less dust. I've already decided that Hawks will go on the 2010 when needed.
