Brake fluid and winter temperatures

Im looking into to upping my brakes a little, im gonna leave the stock calipers since i dont plan on tracking my car really, but im gonna get new rotors, pads and brake lines

SO how will brake fluid like "Motul RBF 600 High Performance Brake Fluid" and "ATE super blue" fare in the winter? Since here in alberta is can get as cold as -45 Celsius (at the worst of times) will i be safe using this fluid? I know they are very good for HIGH temperatures but not sure about the low temps.

Thanks!

lol it was -56 in Leduc last winter. What part of alberta ya from? I'd have to check but I am pretty sure you will find the breaks slugish at first in super cold temps. the hi pro oil is better at hi temps but gets a lot thicker at low temps.

Normal brake fluid's freezing point is about -40 degrees Fahrenheit if it isn't contaminated with water.

I'd recommend moving from Edmonton, it was 81 here today.

I don't know what to tell you to do for extreme cold below -40, I have no experience living or driving anywhere that cold. I only have about 20% antifreeze in my car, it seldom ever drops below the low 30's where I live and drive.

Do some research of different fluids that you are interested in and see if they protect in extreme cold. Look at the MSDS for them and it should tell you. Request it from the manufacturer.

i just looked up the MSDS sheets on the oils they hold their properties until -40 just like stock so you should be good to go with either of them they will preform the same as stock fluid at low temps.

For the coldest climates, I recommend AP Racing Formula 5.1. It has a slightly lower viscosity to work better with ABS valves. This will be especially helpful in cold weather as all fluids with thicken up (including engine oil!).
