2008 G37s Winter Tire HELP

hey folks,

I'm currently running continental extreme contact DWS and located in Vancouver, BC.

Work requires me to look after a few things in Alberta, Canada so I'm going to be heading there in the next few weeks. Alberta winters are notorious for being harsh and cold (-30c)

My vehicle information is as follows:

year:2008
model:g37s
transmission: manual
rim size: 19"

I am looking for the best winter tire its class. Money is not an issue, but safety and performance needs to be of first priority. Do you folks have any sort of recommendations for me?

I am looking to purchase 4 sets of dedicated cheap rims (steelies) to mount the tires on so i can utilize them for the years after. Would I need different sizes for front and rear or are they suppose to be of the same size for winter tires?

Any input would be a blessing. I'm a bit pressed for time and I to get this done quite quick, all help is appreciated.

Thanks..!

Bridgestone Blizzaks get great reviews for snow tires. If you can locate 4 front rims from a G37S sedan or 4 from a G37XS sedan (those are all the same size) that would be a good choice as they're narrow (7.5") and they clear your big S brake calipers.

I would get all the same size wheel and keep the tires on the narrow side, something like a 225 tread width. 18" 350z wheels will also clear. Not sure what steel wheels to go with that would be narrow & still clear your brakes. Might send a PM to Neal@Tirerack and see what he has in stock.

Thanks for the input man! Side note, I know the Blizzaks have a few variations, WS60 WS70 LM-xx....... what would you recommend?

Tread width wise you also recommend 225. How about profile size ? It may also help me if you indicate a range when it comes to profile so I can compare a few different brands as well, perhaps.

Those would be perfect for a winter set, and they look nice too

As far as those variations in the Blizzak line, I'd send a PM (Private Message) to Neal@Tirerack, he's THE MAN when it comes to tire info.
As far as sizing, I'd run a 225/50/18, that will keep you in range w/ the OEM diameter on your coupe.

Has anyone tried running 17" rims on the coupe yet? Would they fit ???

My local Costco is doing a bridgestone promotion on their tires. I'm looking to swing by so if any folks has answers to the 17" question I can look into those too. Thanks again.

I do not believe 17" rims fit over the akebono brakes (in front). I have 18" ASA rims I run the in winter and the just clear.

Ahh gotcha, thanks.

I found a used set of 18" 2005 g35 coupe 7 spoke rims.

Those would probably clear the akenbonos on the coupe right?

Blizzak line has been our #1 performers for quite some time. The more sport based version is made in your oe 19", but if you can get smaller wheels to work I would use their WS80. The more aggressive tire for your area would be a good pick. As an alternate look to Michelin's Xice X-i3.

Thanks Neal.

I think I've decided on Blizzak WS80 225/50/18 on stock G35 coupe 7 spoke 18" rims.

Local guy on craigslist sell them for about $400 for 4. Steelies are going cost me about $350 for 4.

What do you think ?

Make sure your offset works okay too. The diameter will be fine but you do not want to have the face hit your calipers either. If the local lets you, do a test fit before purchasing

Sounds like a nice deal on the tires, and if the steels clear the BBK then just do it

Make sure the Wheels fit, i had my friend buy my old G35 coupe 18s wheels to put on his 05 g35 coupe with Akebono's and adapters for them to work and they didn't work, maybe it was because of the Adapter? But i would try to find someone who you might try to test fit them before buying them.

I was about to buy the WS80 until I saw it's only a ''T'' speed rated for my original wheels on my 09xS Sedan that is 225/50/R18 V rated. I read you can't go more than one letter down, so I could only go to H rated tires. So I guess everyone who put the WS80 on a G37 just doesn't care about that ? Or I can pick annother sized tires that will fit my stock wheels and be ''H'' rated ?

A T rated tire is rated to 120mph. I don't plan on going that fast on my winter tires.
