Brake dust only on one side?

Hey guys,
Haven't washed my car in a couple weeks, so the wheels are dirty. But I noticed that the passenger side front has much more brake dust than the driver side front. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

if you mean the rusting that occurs it is probably you drove through a puddle or some kind of water on the right side and the left side didn't get wet.

it should all go away after a drive with any kind of braking.

It sounds like the brakes are perhaps not gripping evenly from side to side. There could be some air in the brake line to the front driver side wheel causing it not to grip as hard as the passenger side. Does the car pull to the right when you brake hard? Even if it doesn't, yo may want to bleed all the brake lines completely just to be sure.

Do you think it is a warranty item (2009 with 20k miles) or a maintenance item that I would pay for. Trying to figure out if I should take to the dealer (prefer not to) or an independent. Thanks!

I'm a DIY guy mostly, so I'd do it myself. You may not be inclined to, so since you're still under warranty I would take it in to the dealership. Is the brake dust still on your wheels to show them or did you wash it off already? If you've cleaned it off, it will be a "could not duplicate the problem" situation.

I did not wash it off exactly for that reason. Thanks for the advice!

The wheel with excessive brake dust may have a seizing caliper, which would cause the pads to drag. Take a look at the brake pads on both sides - you'll be able to tell pretty immediately whether the wear is uneven.

Good luck.

reviving this from the dead. I am having a similar issue with my rears and the excessive dust is on the driver side. I had all 4 pads and rotors replaced with Centric premium rotors as well as hawk 5.0 street pads about 3k miles ago as well as bleed all 4 corners per the recommended sequence. Haven't been able to wash my car due to california's drought so its been about 2 months since i've last washed her. notice the other day what looked like rust but it wiped away, so it appears to be brake dust.

what would cause the caliper to seize? car doesn't pull in either direction under hard braking or coasting. I guess i should start with BB's advice and start by bleeding the lines again.
