haha yea you do rape them.
I
would feel much comfortable with that rear bottom spring piece and it would give me the extra inch in height I am looking for.

Sharif, did you get a chance to talk with Pete about the rear bottom spring piece?

I didn't. We arent BC dealers, so I figured that his staff would chime into this thread.

Gotcha, I thought you guys were BC dealers.

Hopefully some one from performance factory can get a hold of Pete since they are dealers I think.

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of my BC coilover install and came across this thread. I normally post over on the G35 side of things but I looked into this matter.

I bought my BC coilovers from Adam at Z1 Auto.. great guy and highly recommended. Adam called BC to check on the gold lower spring piece issue. Here is the response I just got back:

"Keith - just spoke to BC, and they said all of the newer kits (recently) all are retaining the stock rubber piece now. The "older" setup used different diameter springs, so they had to include that large gold piece. But they said they are using newer diameter springs now, which retain the std. rubber piece. No changes to the spring rates."

Basically if you look at the springs in the picture on Pete's DIY guide, and the one a couple pages back with the gold piece, you will notice that there's a fairly significant diameter difference. As long as you have the "beefier" looking ones in Pete's guide, you're fine without the gold piece. If you have the skinner springs from the old kits, then you need it. There was also some talk that due to the shape of the new springs they might be progressive, but that is apparently not the case.

For those of you with clunking noises and ride height issues, I would say to make sure that the rubber piece in the bottom of the rear lower spring bucket is still in there. And that your springs are preloaded properly. On the G35 side, people LOVE these kits and haven't had issues. As far as I know the suspension platforms between the 35 and 37 haven't changed. Also, do remember that if you're adjusting the height in the back you have to change the length of the rear spring seats AND the rear strut, to match. Essentially as you lengthen the spanners on the rear spring, you must lengthen the shock strut and visa versa. I'm sure some of you know this, but just reiterating!

Hope that helps some!

I have not visited these forums much the past few months.

My rear coils make a loud *THUMP* when going over any sort of bump on the road. Is there a solution to this? It is extremely annoying.

Sounds like the strut length is not correct. If I am thinking straight this morning, you need to lower the strut so that there is more movement available. The car is bottoming out on the strut from the description you are giving.

So the coils that BC are selling now will not have the rattle because of the changes they made?
