I’ve purchase this Carbon fiber spoiler for my car. I’ve installed it twice so far and after a few days the sides of the spoiler comes up. I don’t know if it’s because of the cold weather up north or the tape itself is bad. If anyone has some good 3m tape products that they’ve used lmk.

 

You want to use 3M VHB tape. Prep the surface thoroughly with isopropyl, warm the surface and when you apply it hold it down for at least 90 seconds. If the edges are the problem areas, you might consider taping them down with painters tape overnight to give the adhesive more time to bond

 

Could you send me the link to the tape you are talking about. There are many VHB 3m tapes on their website

 

Get some 3M adhesion promoter 4298. It helps immensely in how the tape sticks.

 

What tape did you use. I’ve use the automotive attachment tape. And the regular auto moulding tape.

 

You can use either of those. I used the extra wide stuff a little while ago to hold down my windshield cowling, and it's still held on a month later! (Yes, I bought them from Canadian Tire!)

 

Ive used these and my spoiler came up so hopefully the adhesion promoter does the trick

 

If I were trying to tape something like this permanent to the body of the car, I'd probably clean & clay the surface, then rub it down with a grease remover, tape it off and spray a layer of adhesion promoter, then mount the piece with 3M indoor/outdoor mounting tape.

Overkill? Not an expert. Just thinking out loud.

I've used adhesion promoter before, and it makes all the difference for tape that isn't staying stuck.

 

I clayed and waxed the car a month ago. I used rubbing alcohol all over where the spoiler sits, and it still came up. So I guess I’ll see if the adhesive prompter works. Thanks for the info

 

Did you warm up trunk with hair dryer before you put tape on it? The heat will help and after you have it set apply a pressure wrap on it so it doesnt move with like seran wrap or rubber therapy bands
