Tear in seat

My rear seat has a tear where the perforated leather touches the left *** cheek. I have a 2012 with low miles so I'm wondering if it is a defect. Any advice on how to fix this or prevent it from getting worse?

It's not a defect if you dont condition the leather it can do that. You can have an interior shop patch the section from the inside but the labor will be 1-2 hours depending on how they do it. Last time this happened on another car I had them stitch in replacement alcanterra where the perforated sections were.
