The Normal Wear and Tear Screw Job

So I turned in my 08 G35x last month and got a G37x 2011. My sales guy told me my car looked fine and I shouldn't have any excess wear and tear. So I get my final statement and it turns out Infiniti came up with $741(!) of excess wear and tear. I'm done with Infiniti (and perhaps leasing altogether) if I have to pay $750 plus the new $400 disposition fee just to get rid of this thing in a few years.

I see Infiniti has some bs $500 loyalty rebate for this but all that tells me is that its just a scam to recoup some more $$ for Infiniti.

So anyone else experience this on ending leases with Inf? My car was in pretty good shape and I can't imagine much worse than the typical leased car.

Thanks.

Ouch, sorry to hear it, but I would argue hard for it and tell them that you will not pay as the sales person represented the car as great condition. Basically, you should argue that this is an unjustified after the fact assessment of fees. Also, ask for detailed justification of the costs. Fight Fight Fight Brother!

Also, don't lease. eeeek!

Here's a quick question, why didn't you do a preliminary review. And what did they charge you for?

There is NOTHING wrong with leasing, except for not understanding them.

My sales guy looked at it twice and said I had nothing to worry about. Here's the breakdown.

"Other"- $90
Scratched bumper- $176
Chipped hood- $25
Dented front left door- $45
Dented rear left door- $45
Dented quarter panel- $45
Dented bumper- $200
Dented right front door $45
Front floor mats $25

There's no way this is customary with lessees. Otherwise no one would lease. My car was in very good shape so I wonder if normal wear and tear even exists. I email them that this is my last lease if they don't eat the charges. Waiting for a call back.

Your sales guy isn't the inspection company. He doesn't care if you get hit with a wear and tear bill deal. He's just trying to sell a car.

The problem here is that you didn't have the car inspected before you turned in the car.
The typical process is to have your car inspected about a month before turning the car in by an independent inspection company. Then they would provide you with a list of things you may have to take care of before you turn the car in. That way, there won't be any hidden costs and surprises at turn-in.

Acura/Honda is a very good brand to lease because of this. $1500 waiver is quite generous and takes care of must issues.

Your first statement is not true, but your second one probably is. My sales guy should've let me get the inspection before I turned it in, and I should've thought to do it myself, but he was genuinely upset if for no other reason than I told him my business with him is done if he doesn't make the charges go away. After the $500 customary discount, he got them to take off another $100 so I owe $141 at this point.

If I go with Infiniti again, I will definitely have the inspection done first. Lesson learned.

Let's be honest because most people aren't. It sounds like your car had some abnormal wear.

This past Thursday I leased my third G in a row, and my fourth vehicle in a row.

The first G I turned in ('05 G35X) to get the second ('08 G35XS) was a huge disaster. The dealership inspected the car "informally" and the Sales Manager personally assured me that not only would I owe $0, but that if Infiniti came back saying I owed something, the dealership would cover it.

A while later I got a letter from Infiniti saying I owed $1,500. I contacted the dealership and they acted as if they'd never seen me before. I drove to the dealership and confronted the Sales Manager and he literally said he'd never seen me before. I was rather vocal and somewhat vulgar in my response.

I had no intention of getting another, but the new dealership I deal with for service was aware of my previous trouble and jumped through a lot of hoops to get me back:
  • Same monthly lease price as the '08 lease.
  • Jumped me from 15k to 18k miles per year.
  • Threw in the service contract for free.

But the main thing was that the dealership bought my '08 as a trade-in instead of paying off the remaining months of the lease. The difference to them was about $2k, but for me it meant that they took the car that day free & clear as-is.

(the first lease I ever had, a Toyota 4Runner, was bought off rather than ended early, too, for the same reason...)

I thought you said your car was in "very good shape"

What I've hear about leases (I'd never do one..) is that they expect the car to be virtually like the day you drove off the lot with it, save for a little tire wear and the numbers on the dash changed a bit...

I do not see a point of you creating this thread. If you've leased before, you are aware that most leasing institutions off a complimentary Pre-inspection, before you return the car off lease.

If you did that, you would've known about these charges.

And these inspection reports are there for the next buyer, which could be someone on the forums here ....

You're fighting over $241 after the $500 excessive wear and tear voucher.... The pictures show up that you can see physically the reason they charged it to you

Had the same type of damage when I just turned in my wifes BMW 3 Series. They didnt charge us a dime for it even though we werent getting another one. These car dealers are a bunch of crooks and every thing you do with them should be in writing... everything. A mans word is not good anymore... i.e. the sles manager (and all the way up to our President). So if you have it in writing you have something.

By the way we will never lease again. Total waste of money as you will never own anything and be limited on your usage of the vehicle. Not to mention if you are involved in a wreck you will loose everything you have in it no matter whos fault it is.

I'll correct you on a few things.

If you put the money in the bank that you saved in leasing while you lease you WILL HAVE money in the bank. There is NO guarantee that your car will be worth ANYTHING at the end of 5 years. So if you leased for 3, compare it to a 5 year loan. Then the $100-200 a month you save in payments equals at least $3600 in 3 years (the savings depends on the rates, but you see the idea).

You use the vehicle and prepay the use. If you drove 15K before you leased why would you get 10k or 12K? You can also buy 20K a year. If you drive more than than you shouldn't lease, or if you do you BUY the car at the end and sell it after.

If you total your car...you are out of a car if you own it or not. You don't get free money in a loan and since Gap insurance is in the lease you won't ever lose money. Get the right insurance.

Leasing isn't good on some cars, or for people who don't know what a lease is about. Most who got bad experiences probably walked in and didn't know what they were doing.

I remember when I turned in my 05 G35 Coupe and the salesman told me the same thing where my car was in good condition and I had nothing to worry about. He had me sign this letter stating that we both agreed the car was in good condition with no faults that were big enough deeming my responsibility. The 3rd party who came out to review the car also stated the same thing and I actually had him give me something as well.

Were you not treated similarly?
