Painting trunk emblem
Painting trunk emblem
Hello all,
I am starting up my next project. I am looking to turn my rear trunk emblem gloss black.
Anyone have any luck with plastidip? Any other recommendation?
Thanks

I don't usually recommend plasti-dip but small parts like emblems are a perfect use, and do end up looking pretty good. The finish won't be gloss, more of a textured matte. They make a glossifier but haven't used it so can't comment on the finish.
I've used the glossifier, it tends to smooth out the texture some, and give it a semi-gloss look. It won't be glossy like your cars paint though. And be sure and let the plasti-dip fully dry before applying the gloss.
. I have my stock chrome spoiler plasti-dipped and I'm not happy with it now that I've had the emblem painted. Trying to decide if I should paint the stock spoiler or pay the un-godly amount for such a small piece of plastic, OEM sport spoiler. Either way, the plasti-dip will be going away at some point.
its nice and its worth it for a nice temp set up, and if worse comes to worse its not like you can literally peel it off like a sticker lol the best part about plasti dip is the Horsepower it adds, tremendous gains
Man I've been trying for a month to get my grille emblem just right! Good news I've perfected my spray and clearcoat technique it's just trying to keep the edges clean is where I'm having all the problems
I'll probably sand it down one last time and then give up if I can't get it. Trying to leave it outlined in chrome with gloss black as the primary. But tonight its caliper painting time

I used Plasti-dip on my IS250 and Xterra emblems. Turned out better on my Xterra since It was black and I did all emblems, back bumper and wheels. Texture never mattered because it was always muddy and I also it was to protect the wheels when off roading. Not gonna do any plastidip to my G-Ride.
The glossifier makes it semi gloss so in that regard I would have it painted. It will look better and won't have to be re-done.

I opted for paint on both the chrome trunk lip and also the emblem, as I have never been a fan of plastidip.
For the emblem, I actually bought a sedan emblem instead as it is smaller and less in your FACE. They were both painted Viper Black (paint code GXS).

$25 for the emblem and $75 for the trunk lip
You also gotta factor in the cost of a new emblem, its around $35 for a new one.
Save yourself some money and your painter some time by sanding the pieces yourself. Dont have to go crazy either, just scuff em up real good.
