Premature steering wheel wear
Premature steering wheel wear
Has onyone else noticed the wrap on the steering wheel wearing fast? I have 24000km or about 14000 miles on it and there is a section of my steering wheel that has been worn down to an almost sheen. No grip left at all?
I will get a steering wheel cover but I was wondering if this is common?

Yes the steering wheel itself is losing all the texture it used to have. It is almost to the point that it is smooth in certain spots.
Unfortunately I do not know how to add pictures to this post but I did include a couple pictures in my album entitled "G-Spot" if anyone cares to have a peak

I looked at pics, hard to tell. If you are convinced it is premature wear then take it to the dealer. But in my experience its actually build up of dirt and oil in the grooves that makes it seem smooth and shiny. Cleaning with a good cleaner and brush should take care of it. I've had good results with Leather Masters strong cleaner with a boars hair brush in the past.

mine is defiantly wear, I double checked last night.
I know exactly why it wears (in my case), I tend to (when backing up) use my left palm to turn the wheel creating more friction then normal. just wonder if infiniti would cover that and my seats...

Mine still looks new.
Maybe you grip too hard, fidget, or otherwise create too much friction when using the steering wheel.
This isn't exactly a complicated situation. Textured surface + friction = wear & tear.
