6MT Shift Boot, Loose or Tight?

Is the leather shift boot on a 6MT supposed to turn freely or should it be tight under the **** so that it doesn't move? I noticed that the seams on the leather were twisted clockwise and that I could turn it just under the base of the ****. I was able to reposition it so the seams were centered, but it keeps moving back due to shifting. I had some warrantly work done to the radio/HVAC electronics not too long ago and I'm pretty sure the dealership removed the **** before they removed the faceplate. I don't remember the boot doing that before, so I'm thinking they didn't reinstall it properly. Can anyone chime in before I make a trip back to the dealership? Thanks.

Bumpity

Can anyone with a 6MT quickly check this? Is this an issue or normal? I'd rather not drive all the way over to the dealership just for this, especially if nothing is wrong with it. Thanks.

once the **** has been initially taken off, you're never going to get it back to how it was. i can't fully comment on it strictly because i now have a short throw shifter (which sits lower and leaves the boot just a tad baggy due to less height needed) and that i put a new **** on there that isn't sealed, anytime my **** slightly moves, the boot shifts with it.

in any case, i'd chalk it up to the normal category

Well that sucks that it'll never be factory tight again. That's why I hate getting anything done at the dealership. It seems like when they fix one thing they disturb something else. Hah, good call though... I guess it's a good reason to upgrade now! Thanks.

Yeah, after I got the car back, I noticed it was twisted clockwise like in the first pic. They probably didn't hold it in place when they tightened it either. No big deal though, I was able to realign it, but now it just seems loose and it moves on its own after a while. Bummer. Oh well, any recommendations for aftermarket shifters/boots?

I'm pretty **** about everything and this never bugged me. I do move it back to center when I'm sitting at a stoplight and what not.

Yeah, there are worse things I guess. I was just wondering if mine was an isolated case and if I should bring it in to have it looked at. Since it isn't, I won't worry about it.
