True. But the same logic also holds that if they can illuminate half the button, they could just illuminate the whole thing while they're in there at no additional cost. There is no reason I can think of not to light the whole button. Has anyone ever driven or even seen another car with illuminated lock buttons with only half of it illuminated and not the whole thing? I haven't.
I haven't checked this out, but is it possible that only the function that can be accomplished is illuminated? For example, if the doors are already locked, then only the side for unlock will be lit up (because you can't lock doors that are already locked) and vice versa?

And can I ask, which one should be illuminated if the driver's door is unlocked and the passenger door is locked?? I wouldn't like this feature!!

The car wouldnt know which side to light up and as a result the engine will blow up.
