Relay suggestion

folks: is there an lighting harness that includes a trigger relay for lights that could be used to draw power from the battery without potentially blowing a body control module??? Any links to a part that might work? I was thinking about an HID harness but couldn't find one that wasnt part of an HID kit!

I don't quite understand the question. Are you just looking for a trigger wire to turn on the lights with a relay or are you wanting to power the lights with the harness? If you are looking for a trigger wire off the harness that is an easy fix with a Bosch relay and just grab the main power from the battery.

I want to power the lights with a harness that has a relay to allow use of the OEM switch and protect the BCM from blowing...

Im assuming (from a previous thread) that you're looking at replacing the fog lights with something custom.. like maybe LED's or something?

You might want to tap directly into the IPDM/ER. Inside there you should find the fog light relay. Pull it out, and tap in your own relay, wire your custom harness .. ?

Well - I would prefer to keep things as stock as possible, without "tapping" into/replacing the stock relay. I would like to leave the existing relay in place. Does anyone have a part number for a Bosch relay that would allow a trigger connection and then a passthru of 12v from the battery? Isn't there an HID harness that may fit this bill???

For the Bosch relay you can go to any car stereo place or Best Buy or Circuit City and get one. Just ask for a "Bosch auto relay". They are usually 30 amps. They also have the same type of thing at Radio Shack but I don't think that it is a Bosch.
When I hooked up my fog lights I used a Scotch Lock (just google Scotch Lock Quick connectors) to tap off the OE fog light. The relay pulls such little amperage that the BCM will be fine. Then as you said just wire the new light through the relay to the battery.

The draw is going to be about 225ma's... is it even worth a relay install? Do you think it would damage the BCM?

I don't think that it will effect the BCM. But unfortunately the way engineers are now a days they only make the product to work for exactly what the are asking it to do. No more are the days of adding a little extra so you have some wiggle room.

But honestly I don't think that the BCM will be adversely effected.
