Infotainment Screen Upgrade Inquiry

What's up G37 Fam?

I've had my G for a year now, and the one thing that chaps my backside the most, is the tiny, recessed infotainment screen. I'm looking for a way to retain the factory stereo and installed a larger screen, something like a floating screen that allows for angling and height adjustments, to really fine tune the positioning in the cabin.

I've looked at the Tesla screens, and I find them too busy, not to mention it's not always a straightforward install. I tried 3 different Phoenix screens in my old truck and they all left my battery dead after 3 days, so I'm really hesitant to install something that's just going to end up giving me more problems. The Metra installation kit is ugly, and a huge downgrade in quality in my opinion.

The next option would be something like what SoundMan does with his iPad kits, but again, I want to retain the factory functions like maintenance resets and the like. Has anyone had any luck upgrading the screen itself, or am I wishing for something that just isn't possible?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, for the G, there are only 2 "mainstream" options: The Tesla-style thing which replaces the whole center stack, or the Teyes CC3- type unit that "replaces" the screen. Both are ugly (IMO), have mixed reviews, and are ridiculously overpriced. Of the two the Tesla-thing would blend in more than the Teyes which just slaps a screen in front of the center air vents (eliminating the multi-function button block). Just go to eBay and enter "G37 Android" and tons will pop up of both varieties.

There are also the V-Line kits that bring Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay but you'd still be limited with the tiny screen.

Don't stop with the heads up display, Nifty City also offers a tasteful looking Digital Dash Cluster upgrade:

Aucar has a similar offering as well:

Both of these run $1200-1300. For cars that are 10-15+ old now the "Infiniti Tax" still rages on. Hard pass for me- my bank account can't justify that overpriced gimmick. Besides, much as I hate my cluster now due to the flickering LED's I still like analog.

Though the open-box item they have for $800... hmmm...

Flickering LEDs in the cluster? That would make me crazy. Used cluster an option?

For the longest time the LED in my analog clock was toast and I never noticed. I then saw a post on here talking about fixing it and a lightbulb went off. I checked and it was dead, replaced with an Ebay unit and now I can't imagine the center console w/o the backlit clock.

Yes. Sometimes it behaves nicely while other times it flickers more than the disco ball at 54. No rhyme nor reason nor specific conditions... It has a mind of its own. The cluster is made by Calsonic-Kansei- same mfr. with the cracking dashes and other common issues so... yeah.

Once in a while I research these "online repair facilities." A used cluster- would likely have/ develop the same issue. Not a priority so....

How much of a PITA is it to replace? It looks like used ones on Ebay ("works") are under $200, then a new one from Nissan is a grandish. I have to admit that if I pulled one out, I would be tempted to try out the Gran Turismo route: https://myvqparts.com/products/g37-s...auto-myvqparts

I already have the Grom VLine 2 unit installed. I just want a bigger display. I know there's gotta be a DIY workaround, and if I find it, I'll be sure to share it.

Thanks for hopping in the convo, seems not many people are interested in it, lol.

Gotcha. I am in a similar boat. That 7" inch screen is getting smaller and smaller for this old coot.

I had tinkered with the idea of researching whether any of the other Nissan OEM screens would work but those are also either 7 or 8 inches so- no gains really. Then, I thought of the headrest monitors (from the rear entertainment systems) and while those are significantly larger at ≈12 inches I do not believe they would interface fully with our cars (lack of GVIF support) and would likely not have touchscreen control. Then there would be fitment...

So, yes, I understand what you are seeking. There just aren't any viable options that I've come across. Even overseas where our Japanese and Russian friends come up with "off the wall" ideas the search for a larger screen just has no traction. If you come across any I am all ears...
