Reset Settings. No audio, sonar non-functional. Error "Unfinished Configuration"

Hello,

In an attempt to troubleshoot some Bluetooth issues I was having recently, I was poking around through the dealer hidden settings menus, and selected the option to reset settings to default (same as issue posted in this thread.) The car now doesn't give any sound from the AV system, volume controls are unresponsive, several settings menus are now greyed out, and sonar doesn't work either.

I understand that to get my features restored that I will need to have the car reprogrammed by the dealer, however I was already really interested in purchasing the GROM Vline to get some additional functionality from the AV system such as Google maps, Spotify, etc. The dealer (Infiniti of Oxnard, CA) is wanting $380 to reprogram the AV system, which is well over 50% of the cost of the GROM unit.

My question is: Can i purchase and install the GROM unit instead of getting my car reprogrammed at the dealer, and get full functionality form it (other than sonar of course)? Or will I need to get the car reprogrammed no matter what if i want to get audio back?

And are there any alternatives to going to the dealer, are any other shops out there equipped to reprogram the car? $380 seems like highway robbery for what would almost certainly take them less an than hour in actual labor.

Thanks,

Only the dealer- Nissan or Infiniti- can reconfigure the AV system. In fact, anyone with the CONSULT-3 (Nissan tool) can set the config files. Aside from that, you are dead in the water.

As for your GROM thing, I am 99.9% sure that you will need to have the existing AV system working before the VLINE will do anything. Their module only piggybacks the existing system, it doesn't replace it AFAIK.

$380 is highway robbery. I would call a few Nissan dealerships, or even if there are any indy/ mechanics that specialize in Nissan. Again, it is the CONSULT-3 that you need in order to access and write the correct configuration to the AV hard drive.

Thumbs up

Following up for future reference, there is indeed a big variation in the quotes I've received from dealers. So far best is 140$ from Infiniti of Bakersfield, and highest is the price mentioned above , $380 from Infiniti of Oxnard. So it definitely is worth shopping around if anyone here runs into this problem themselves.

I spoke with another independent Nissan/Infiniti specialist (PrecisionZ in Canoga Park, CA, guy was super helpful and knowledgeable btw) who stated that while they do indeed have a license for Consult3 in their shop and have the ability to reprogram the AV system, they couldn't be sure that they have the specific library for my car without being able to provide them with the module number or connecting the car to their computers. If they don't have the library in their system already, they'll then need to pay Infiniti for that additional module so we'd see an additional charge there as well.

Due to the uncertainty there and the fact that Infiniti Bakersfield quoted a reasonable price I'll be going that route. Just wanted to follow up and close out the thread.

Hey Chron,

Hope you're doing well!

I called the Bakersfield location, but they were clueless about what I was asking. Do you remember the tech you worked with there?

Also, the guy in Canoga Park said he'd charge $350 if he can figure it out. I'm in Pasadena and totally willing to drive to Bakersfield if I can find the right tech to take care of this for me.

Thanks a lot, buddy!

Did it work!

Hey Chron, did the dealer in Bakersfield take care of it for you? If so, do you remember who you worked with? I called and talked to the service manager, but he had no clue what I was talking about! He said I need to bring it in for a check and pay for a diagnosis!
