Issue with stock system and iPhones

So I have similar issues on both of my G's -

2013 G37 Sedan Base model - since Ive had it (2016ish) it has always been a pain to plug in my iphone and play music. For a good while, I would have to plug in, unplug, then plug back in while music was playing (different apps ie. spotify, youtube, apple music) for it to start playing. As of recently, it just says "There is no song" and I cannot get it to play. This is only with my phone and it worked fine just months ago. It works with my wife's phone by using the method I listed first.

2012 G37s premium/nav/app model - Worked fine since I got it back in July and all of a sudden saying "There is no song" but still plays my music.

Anyone else dealt with this? It seems to be an apple issue to me, but also frustrating as since Ive owned both of these cars, the audio system has been a pain dealing with.

It has a lot to do with the logic necessary to determine which way the lightening plug is inserted into the iPhone. If connections are made in certain orders, the proper handshaking between the car and the phone is not made and no data is transferred. I experience this sometimes when I unplug the phone, shut the car off then restart the car and reconnect the phone. I can remedy the problem by manually starting an audio track playing on the phone while its plugged in. This seems to manually bootstrap the handshaking sequence. You may also have a worn lightening cable as they do tend to fray easily. You could also have a marginal harness in the car or a signal ground issue with the phone, although chasing digital noise is difficult to do without the proper equipment

Blame Apple, if they weren't so intent in controlling where and how their products are used, they would make it easier to interface them with other equipment.

Best thing to do IMHO is Bluetooth for music playing and standard cigarette lighter charger cable.

Right now I'm using a magsafe phone mount/charger so it plugs into the USB in the console just fine (no data transfer). Charging is slow but enough to keep the phone topped off while driving, using Google Maps and Pandora or Youtube.

Remember, the iPhone interface tech in the G is circa 2010 - phones have changed a good bit since then; if your phone is newer than an 6 it probably isn't quite talking to the car the way the car expects.

Most definitely true, I have a 6S+ iPhone on my 2008 G37S and the solution that worked for me was plugging a Bovee 1000 Bluetooth dongle into the CableJive Dockstubz+ converter. Sadly, the CableJive while still available is ridiculously expensive but there are alternatives available

2012/2013 should both have bluetooth as part of the stock infotainment. Maybe not the 2012 non-nav... but there's plenty of AD2P bluetooth adapters out there.

Hey , i have an 11 with nav etc and for ever i had android etc with no issues and recently switched to an iPhone and not sure if this will work for you, but try connecting to itunes and get at least one song on your music app and the "there is no song" message will go away..i cant find the source on where i read this, but its basically something to do with infiniti's search logic blah blah blah..basically its looking and if it doesn't find it, then it needs Valium or in our case, at least one song..give it a whirl and at least the pesky message will go away...

I'm interested in seeing if this was the issue. If so, and the OP has previously synched a playlist to the phone, it tells me the synch was corrupted.

In that MyG37 thread, many users are trying to solve connectivity issues between the stock audio/video system and iPhones, especially when Bluetooth or CarPlay doesn’t behave reliably. A lot of the troubleshooting revolves around software updates, resetting connections, or using alternative pairing methods because intermittent audio dropouts and disconnections seem pretty common. Some members also suggest that compatibility quirks between certain iOS versions and the factory head unit can make things frustrating without clear fixes. Given these challenges, several people start looking at third‑party solutions that simplify control over media and settings without relying solely on the car’s native system. Mobile apps that centralize remote functions can sometimes bridge gaps where direct integration falls short. For example, https://apps.apple.com/us/app/remote...v/id6758938618 shows how an app‑based interface can provide consistent control and connectivity, offering a smoother experience than piecing together multiple system‑level workarounds.
