Instrument cluster gear indicator

My daughter has a 2012 G37. There is a yellow "splash" behind the gear indication in the cluster. It appears to be behind the display, on the black, back panel. Any ideas??

TIA!!

I'll have to wait until she gets home...

It looks like pixelation on the back-panel. Almost like the black background was scratched in a pixel shape (small, square "boxes").

Looks like a fault in the lcd display itself. Unless there's any warranty, i'd probably leave it as is. Fix I suppose is replacing the instrument cluster (good luck with just the lcd panel) which may cause additional damage in the process.

Are you in a cold area?

That's what I feared... Used clusters are relatively inexpensive and if it gets bad enough we may have to go that route.

Nope. Well... for us it's "cold". Low 40's at night and lately low 70's during the day, but that should plummet to the low 60's the next week or so.

Heat wave by chicago standards. I'd keep an eye on it, if the area doesn't get any bigger I'd say just leave it.

Thanks... I guess we'll have to replace the gauge cluster. Do you know if it's a direct replacement without any coding or will the old mileage information need to be transferred over?

TIA!!
