After searching the forum on this topic, sounds like the map update also updates the map software and and the gracenote database. But there doesn't seem to be consensus on whether the map update does anything to the bluetooth firmware.

For folks who have actually done the map upgrade with DVDs, did it it upgrade your bluetooth firmware? Specifically, when I go into the "secret" diagnostic menu, my bluetooth firmware version is 4E20 on my 2010 G. Post map upgrade, are you on a higher rev of the firmware?

As I've upgraded my phone over the years, the bluetooth audio has become less and less reliable (more stuttering, text not displaying, etc). If I can fix this problem with updated firmware and get new nav maps at the same time, then doing the update seems worthwhile.

I'll just add that when I had the car in at the dealer this past week, i asked the service guy to check on this, and he told me I already had the latest and greatest firmware (which I doubt).

 

I've done 2015 upgrade, and I believe it did not upgrade any firmware. Its just the latest maps.

I am kind of hoping for a firmware update too, thinking that it can make the center console a bit more responsive to touch. But not sure if one exists. Please do update the forum if you happen to find a newer firmware for the nav system.
