iPad mini 4 digital output?

I am wanting to use my iPad mini 4 to provide hi-res music via digital output (Toslink) to my Alpine DSP. I found a video that was out on using the Pure i20 to do this but according to various reports, this no longer works for iPhone 6 phones and I would assume, the new iPads. The Pure i20 has a 30pin connector which I was going to use the 30pin to lightning cable adapter in order to use it (again, works with every Apple product up to iPhone 5s).

I have a Seagate Wireless Plus 2TB drive and was planning to use this to store all my music and play the FLAC files wirelessly through the iPhone and/or the iPad mini 4, having the iPad (or phone) connected to a device that provides an optical out to my DSP. Is there any solution out there that will do this? Any help would be appreciated.

Care to elaborate? Are you using your iPod in some kind of digital out (toslink) to a processor with a DAC?

telcoman...it looks like you just have your ipod connected to your factory radio.

JakeG37. A nexus 7 will provide an optical out via an OTG USB cable. All of the stuff is easy to find online.

Blazeplacid, I have a Nexus 7 that i was going to swap out with my factory display but I determined this wasnt the way I wanted to go. Someone on another site suggested I use the Apple HMDI adapter and have the HDMI cable go into a converter with a toslink output. I can still charge the iPad (or I assume, iPhone) with an additional lightning cable that plugs into the HDMI adapter.

Back to the Nexus 7 idea, it seems there may be hope in using my iPad as a monitor to display the stock factory video. I saw a video that had a jailbroken iPad with a lightning to usb (camera adapter) and that plugged into a Canon 70D camera. With an app from cydia, you can view the output of the camera (this app is only for Canon). If it is possible to do this with a camera, I am betting there is a way to do it the way a couple others have with the Nexus 7 mod. I imagine some of the same components from that mod could be used for the jailbroken iPad.

Telcoman, you are completely missing the mark on this. I know I can connect my iPhone through the factory connector. This method will NOT provide an optical connection from my iPad/iPhone to my DSP, and if you re-read my first post you will understand that is what I need it to do.
