Best time to update your Navigation MAP?

I just want to know when will we get the new map for our g37 coupe. My Navigation map is 8 years old and I want to update it as soon as the new one come out.

How much do they charge for the map update at the dealership?

Thanks

You can buy the new update yearly, the dealer won't let you know there is an update. I'm registered with Infiniti so I get an email yearly when a new version comes out and I order it online. I usually update every other year. You do the update yourself (DVD based) and I think it's around $125. This is based on my M37x as my G37 doesn't have NAV.

I think I got the update around May.

I also get an e-mail from Infiniti. The cost to update when they notify me is $179 (supposedly a discount from the $249 full price). Here is the link Infiniti Onboard Navigation System Map Update DVD

It depends if you are looking for the best deal or the latest map? I think sometime around June they annually have these upgrades at a sale price.

Thanks for the info guys. I just checked the website and 2015 map for my 08 Coupe is $149.99

If 2016 map is coming out at 9/28 then i think i'll wait to get the latest map.

How much do they usually discount around June?

If I still have the car at 8 yrs of ownership I may consider updating too. Really though around here, not much has changed or is slated to change. In the 4 years of ownership I don't think i've come across an area that the gps didn't register correctly.

For roadtrips I use a garmin nuvi. The routes I generate and then upload to it are nowhere near what the nav unit creates. The garmin came with free lifetime map updates. I can probably count on one hand how many times I've actually set a destination in it.

If you're not in immediate need, wait for the update to go on sale.

There is a yearly sale in late Spring - early Summer (May - June) when the pricing for the current year's maps goes down to $99. It's really a closeout before the next update is released a few months later, usually in the Fall.

I use Google Maps primarily and with it feeding through my BT and muting my audio and then bringing the audio back up after the app says whatever...it works for me. I use one of those magnetic backing mounts with my LG G2 (5.2" screen) and it sits directly in front of the middle console, driver side vent. I still like knowing I can use the car's navigation on long trips or as a backup if I need my phone to be available.

I've personally gone along the line that I'll update the maps in the car every 3 years.. I did it once when I bought the car and got in on that yearly sale (late June 2013). I probably will again next June.

Uhhhh ... Google doesn't update every day but we get your point. I'll still take built in NAV over smartphone, stand alone GPS, etc (and yes, I'm well aware of the price point).

Don't bother. Just use your phone. It's faster and it's free.

I just press a button and say, take me to "insert place name or say the address" and it takes me there. (Samsung S Voice).

Good like trying to do that with the Infiniti Navi.

I was trying to input Cerritos Infinti a few weeks ago and couldn't do it. lol There is no dealership option. Just Gas, Restaurant, Hotels and ATM. Unless I'm doing something wrong.

Thats what i been doing but the bad part about it is my phone bluetooth audio goes thought AUX (for 08) So it has to be on AUX input all the time and i can't listen to the car music. I have to play music thought my phone and run the navi app at the same time. It is complicated.

plus when you think about it.. we pay more money to have Build-in Navigation when we bought it. If we don't use it then we should get the car with no navi to save money.

Each job requires a certain tool.

Sure there is lots of overlap, but the built in nav still does not let you custom design routes on a computer. Even google's implementation of this doesn't even come close to garmin's mapsource software. I don't think there's any built in system that lets you use a computer to design the route then upload it to the car.

Agreed ... I wasn't trying to say a built in system is a better navigation tool. It's simply the most elegant. No extra mounts, extra cords, moving your line of sight down to your lap, etc. I don't have NAV in my G but I do in my M that is tied into SiriusXM traffic. While sometimes the route chosen might not be the best one ever conceived (it often offers multiple routes and I have to choose) I have yet to not get to my destination.

Not too mention, it's always there, available to me at all times I'm in the car should I need it. To each his own.

I'm using the phone's navi and playing pandora via bluetooth at the same time. No issues with it.
