iPod integration problem

I recently purchased a 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe. I bought the cable to connect the ipod so I can have it on the screen. My 4 gen ipod detects that there is a accessory detected, but in the car it just says iPod is not detected. I have also tried this with first gen iPod touch and iPhone 4. Any ideas why this is?

Where did you purchase the cable?

May be a defective cable? Have you tried another?

May be a bad connection at the console or cheap cable if that's the case.

Then I would check the connector in the console to make sure someone didn't jack it up inserting and removing prior to you owning the car. At least, that's where I would start.

Tbh, when my old iPhone 4s is plugged in, my car says the same thing. However, I don't have any songs on my iPhone's STOCK music application. All of my songs are on a 3rd party application, so I guess the Car only recognizes music from stock music app. Once I press play, from the music application I use, everything plays and works as usual. The message saying no songs are detected is still there though.
