USB flashdrive VS Ipod

Hi all,

I bought a 2011 G37xS (non-nav) and just signed up to the forum. Ideally I would like to find something that allows me to plug and play streaming Bluetooth but that doesn't not seem like an option (my main music device is an Android). I've been searching for more info about the lack of Aux on the car and have learned that I will have to go Flashdrive or Ipod. Now my question is, in terms of menus and functionality, which is better, Flashdrive or Ipod? Also, is the usb input compatible with USB 3.0?

Thanks for the help!

I have both and use both, along with the music box.

The iPod gives you better control. The artists and albums are in alphabetical order. You can fast scroll through the alphabet to get to your choice quicker and scrolling does not interrupt the tune which is playing. I have more storage space with the iPod. The only downside, which is minor, the classic takes up more space than a thumb drive. The classic is no longer being produced and the current iPods are smaller in size.

The only real positive on the USB is size. Unless you meticulously put the files in the drive, the artists and albums are not in alphabetical order. The album tracks may not be in the right sequence also, unless you copy the files over one by one. If you want to start searching for the next album to play while a song is playing, that song will switch over to whatever you have highlighted on the USB.

I believe USB 3 came out a couple of years ago or so, which is after your model year. Thus your port is most likely USB 2, which would not have the speed benefits of 3. Many USB devices support both the 2 & 3 protocols. A computer techie would be able to answer this best. I have not experienced any lags with my USB 2 thumb drive.

Ipod UI is way better, and there is a limited number of songs that can be read using a memory stick. On my 2010, it won't read past around 2000 songs or about 12 gb. So, I've got a dedicated 64 gb Ipod Touch.

Agreed. I have a 2010 Nav and it slows down and freezes up the screen if there are too many songs on the USB. So I pretty much just use my i-Pod touch

I have an iphone 5s and a 2013 g37 and I can plug in both usb and iphone via cable. I'd like to find a way I don't have to plug them in but use bluetooth like the phone. I'm still looking through these threads for it. I can tell you before this car I had a 2008 g37 and an lg android and it worked just fine.

if you do not have Navigation in your G then you will not be able to stream audio over bluetooth. That feature is only available with Navigation.

I prefer the flash drive.

If you include sub folders you can arrange it however you want and the sound quality and re-activeness seem to be better in my experience.

I wouldn't use bluetooth it sounds horrible and wastes your battery.
