Help 3.5mm AUX on 2011 G37x Sedan with Bose + Nav
Hello all!
New user here. Technically my 2nd post but we'll consider it a first as the other was on an item FS. Just picked up a 2011 G37x Sedan Black Obsidian about a month ago and I'm loving every minute of it!
I should probably start a mod thread for it as I've already done a bit: SpoilerKing Roof Lip, debadged except Mt. Fuji, OEM Midnight Black Grille, manual shift +/- swap, Morimoto 5Five ballast swap w/ XB35 6000k, VLED 6000k fogs(not v3)/6000k license plate/5000k reverse LEDs, KPTechnologies Mirror Tilt(deluxe) & Window Roll-Up, Hardwired Escort Redline w/ SmartCord Direct Wire (read: no mirror tap) & ProClip for the Live App, 3m Crystalline 90 on all side windows, 3m Crystalline 70 on windshield + sunroof, SunTek CXP5 on rear glass, 5% static cling visor strip to hide Redline. All done by me except the tint and a much needed paint detail (wetsand, buff, sealant, claybar, polish, wax).
But that is neither here nor there. I know I'm not the only one who wants a 3.5mm jack in my car and I have an idea as to how that might be accomplished. However, I'm wondering if anybody more knowledgeable can let me know if it will work (in theory) before I buy the parts and spend the time. I was recently inspired by this post by aerospaced:
I understand this does not apply to cars with factory navigation as our satellite receiver is built into the AV Control Unit and not under the deck lid next to the Bose Amp. However, after reviewing the AV.pdf for my car I noticed that M208(pg. 409) on the AV Control Unit has what I'm assuming are line level inputs based on their titles but setup for 5.1 instead of stereo audio. My question is can I tie the Front LH (+) to the Rear LH (+) and the Front RH (+) to the Rear RH (+) then tie all the (-) together and wire that to a 3.5mm female jack? Color coded image of what to tie together:
Side note: I understand that the car has bluetooth audio which is a great feature for many but has its drawbacks. Firstly, as we all know, running bluetooth on your phone and/or streaming music is just a battery killer. Yes, I know I can just charge my phone while I do these things but that's not the point. Lastly, while my LG G2 plays bluetooth audio through my car just fine for the average individual, when listening closely there is a slight hum/buzz that is more noticeable at higher volumes. So please, don't suggest bluetooth or FM transmitters or ultra expensive products like navtool. Just insight on whether or not this would work.
Thanks for the help!

Just went from an 08 to 11 G37X w/o nav and was disappointed to find out Infiniti eliminated the line level aux input. After doing some research I found a fairly easy solution. The xm tuner located under the parcel shelf in the trunk has line level outputs (red, green, black, white wires) that go to the head unit. I spliced into those and then set my xm tuner to channel 0 since there is no programming on this channel. I am now able to use the headphone out on my blackberry to stream pandora and also connect my portable HD radio. Sounds great - I have to turn up the volume higher than normal but otherwise seems to work well. I plan to install a 1/8 female jack in the center console tomorrow where the aux jacks used to be.

Side note: I understand that the car has bluetooth audio which is a great feature for many but has its drawbacks. No takers? Figured nobody wants to be personally responsible if I ruin my car and void the warranty in the process.
Either way, I'm going to give this a shot and potentially benefit the community as a whole (or crash and burn). As of now, I ordered a couple of THESE 3.5mm panel mount jacks to play with.
My plan is to individually tap the wires I mentioned in the last post then connect the LH+ taps together, the RH+ taps together, and all the - taps together and wire it to this jack.
The only real difference between this and what aerospaced did before me (other than the split between front and rear) is that I'm using the output wires from the AV Control Unit(AVCU) because the inputs are not mentioned in the FSM for the nav equipped models.
aerospaced used wires that input to the AVCU which then takes that signal and outputs it to the Bose Amp. I'm using said outputs to skip the AVCU and ride my signal straight to the Bose Amp first.
As my setup will not go through the AVCU, I am unsure whether or not the Head Unit(HU) volume control will have any effect on the 3.5mm input.
If the HU volume control directly controls the output volume on the Bose Amp then the HU volume control will work with the 3.5mm input.
However, if the Bose Amp is always set to max volume and the HU volume control controls the input volume to the amp then the HU volume control will be useless in regards to the 3.5mm input and volume will be have to controlled by the device I plug in.
So wish me luck! Any input on if this will work or if the volume control will work (or a way to make it work if it wont) is much appreciated.

i just did this few days ago, it was about 2-3 hours of work

But i just made my own 3.5mm jack and wired it into the harness in the back of the headunit with no RCA adapters, plugged it into a Bluetooth to 3.5mm receiver and done.

That is an excellent option for those who do not have nav. However, the pinout on the navigation models is entirely different as our XM receiver is built into the AV Control Unit and is not a separate unit under the parcel shelf. Great option for those who do not have navigation and bluetooth. Does not apply to me unfortunately.
so you're saying that the satellite unit is different? you cant patch in by the headunit itself?
