the Kivic was from my buddy's FX and connected via video input and wifi with phone. Unfortunately I have a 2011 which it doesn't have (rca) video input
Sorry for bringing back an old thread but I need some help.
R1cky,
Did you need to jailbreak your iPhone to mirror the display or no? I have the navtool so now I have Video in capabilities but just found out that if you are on iOS 7.1.1 you cannot revert to iOS 7.0.6 or lesser to be able to jailbreak the phone.

I agree it is pricey.
I purchased my previous 06 G35 without it because of the price. I was later sorry although the $79.00 Black Friday special Garmin worked well.
Traded in the 06 G35 with almost 172k miles and love my current 2012 G37S
My wife had a 09 Altima that she purchased without Nav because of the price.
She was later sorry. She now has a 2013 Altima with Nav, backup camera, and ground lighting and is happy with all.
In addition to the Navigation, you can also get Nav Traffic, Nav weather as well as a list of nearby restaurants, gas stations, shopping, and other places of interest while driving.
I usually purchase my vehicles outright with the expectation of keeping the vehicle for 10 years so the initial cost of options when averaged out doesn't seem so bad.
Life is too short to go without.
No wasting money on useless mods and regular 87 octane helps pay for the options.

An iphone does all of that as well and is updated for free and more often. Newer restaurants, places of interest, new roads.
I too have factory NAV, but only because I bought my car used. If I buy new, I may not buy NAV, if I did get the NAV the biggest reason would be resale value (as more cars are being sold with NAV, more are being traded in with NAV) It's just as expensive as it was 10yrs ago, you cannot use some options while moving, it's expensive to update and I think Nissan/Infiniti's NAV interface is the worse I've used.
I personally would love to be able to use my iOS on the factory screen. I would assume XM Traffic would be better then google maps, but how much better? $2000.00 better? plus monthly fee...when the iPhone doe sit for free
You are right, it would be more of a distraction, but, it's up to the driver to use their judgement on when they use it and how they use it. Just talking on the phone, even Bluetooth can be a distraction for some.
just my opinion, everyone will prefer what they prefer and that's why it's an option
