sedan subwoofer replacement

i have seen how several people have successfully replaced the factory sub with an aftermarket, tapping into the stock amp to get signal to their own amp.

seems very straight forward, however my question pertians to the sub and whether or not its free air.

would this make a big difference? i have an IB flat pioneer ten with shallow mounting depth that would fit in there nicely, but its not free air. am i going to end up getting marginal or no improvement at all over the stock setup?

a free air sub is made to be used in an infinite baffle set up.

Regular subs need a box, they use the resistance from the box to sound their best

you can use the sub you have now and you may be happy with it.

I would think leaving the stock sub plugged in would cause issues with the sound quality....but some people like loud over quality.

I stated I would be replacing the stock sub. I will put the new sub in its place

I fully understand the difference between free air and enclosed, but I wasn't sure if this would be considered grayish area.

And yes I 100% sure I will either like it or not

With the bass **** and EQ on the sub amp, you can get it to where the real lows pop with the sub, and the rest is handled by the factory sub. It really adds the space it was missing.
