USB question & opinions

Whats up everyone. I picked up a CPO g37x sedan with navigation back in November with the extended warranty included. Since the day i purchased it the USB only works when it wants to in the car. I took the car in for service to get that checked out because I am unable to play any music from a flash drive. My car has been there for over a week now, and when i spoke to the service advisor the last thing he mentioned is that the "tech line" out in CA informed them that the USB is a known issue on the G's with navigation, and that the base model G does not have any issue's at all. Im just curious to know if anyone has had this exact same issue and what was the outcome of your issue. Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 2011 G37 journey sedan with navigation that I bought new in 2011, I use a flash drive all the time with no problems at all. In fact, I find using a flash drive is better than paying for Sirius. Sorry you are having a problem. You should insist that the dealer fix it. I have a friend with the same car and he has no problem with USB either. I don't believe your dealer that it's a known problem.

Been on the board here for a year and this is the first time I have seen this. Anecdotally, mine works fine in my 2010 that has Navigation. Got one of those tiny flash drives where the chip is in the plastic inside the connector.

OP, did you try more than one flash drive?

And even if it is a known problem, they still have to fix it if the car is under warranty. Being a know problem is irrelevant.

Make sure your flash drive is formatted as FAT and not NTFS

While there is a thread about an USB flashdrive... my question is , is there anyway to make it possible for the audio system to play FLAC files off the USB?? Is there something I dont know about ?

I dont think it supports FLAC files. None of the cars i had supported FLAC. They all usually support .mp3, .wav, or .wma files. If you dont want to kill the quality, convert flac to .wav

No FLAC. Below is from the owner's manual. You'd need to convert the files or burn a CD.

well that's the thing I really don't want to burn CDs and keep a ****load of them , thats what the USB flashdrive is for, so that would be the most convenient way of doing it at least for me without killing the quality that FLAC files carry... it works through bluetooth streaming off of my Galaxy S4 but that's just annoying to hook up the phone everytime I get in the car , therefore would love to be able to play FLAC files off of the USB as mp3 has no where the sound quality that FLAC has , I dont know about .wav or .wma files...

.wav is the closest you can get to FLAC but the file size will be huge compared to 320kbps MP3. Honestly you wont even hear the quality difference. Save yourself the headache and convert to mp3 320kbps quality.

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried with 4 different flashdrives all files are FAT, and converted to .mp3 or .wav. It will play flashdrives with a small amount of songs on it, but the one that has over 1000 songs it will not play it at all. Ive tried all the flashdrives in the loaner that they gave me and they all work perfectly fine, and I also tested it on a friends car. Dealer game me sum BS excuse stating that this is a known issue on the cars with the NAVI, but that they still do not have a fix for it. Dealer has had my car for over 2 weeks now. I'm pretty much at the mercy of their service department. One mechanic said it might need the module replaced, but then they came back and stated that their "tech line" said that had nothing to do with it. I will keep you guys posted as to what other BS they can come up with.

I have a sporadic condition like what you described, OP. I found out that it was the USB to USB mini cable causing the issue. I guess the wiggling around while driving caused the connector to sorta wear out. Then my ipod mini had an issue with the Florida heat in the summer. It just stopped linking to the car. I didn't know that what you described was an issue recognized by Nissan, so thanks for the info.
