USB to iPhone

Hello everybody this is my first post so play nice.
I have a 2010 infiniti g37x sedan with out the navigation package.
I have an iphone 4 which has all of my music stored on it, and I also have an iphone 5s (which has music on it as well)

I have a USB port in the center console, so I plug in the cord, and then I plug the cord into my iPod/iPhone and the words "no song to play" or something pops up, the iphone is charging, it just won't play music. iTunes doesn't work, pandora doesn't work neither does YouTube.

I've seen some threads about infiniti having to update your firmware in your car? I'm just wondering if this is at all true? any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated. I love music and I absolutely can't stand driving with nothing on. HELP!!!
Thanks for your time guys.

When you are plugged into the USB port, you are not using Bluetooth. Does the manual say that you should be able to charge/stream through the USB port? I don't see why they would include a USB port inside the car if you can not do this...my guess is that there is a firmware upgrade needed to support iOS 7.x

On the 2013, plugging into to USB supports both charging and music (I have used iOS 6.x on a 4S to iOS 7.x on a 5S and both worked seamlessly once I read the manual and got the pairing right). In addition, the 13' supports streaming as well, but you need to pair you handset once for voice and another time for streaming audio. This throws alot of people off, so I thought I'd mention it here again.

I don't have Bluetooth audio, at all. that's what I was trying to say. All I have is the Bluetooth which connects to my phone to make calls. Not play music.

yes the usb should be playing music, but it won't.
