USB cable in center console

Just upgraded my phone to iphone 5 and had to change my cable in car. Got the old one out no problem and put the new cable in, a little cumbersome frankly not sure why they had to put it so deep in the console. Anyhow, my wife inherited my old phone and would like to be able to switch the cables back and forth occasionally. The problem is I can't get the new cable out of the usb slot for the life of me. My wife has tried, I had a friend try we are almost thinking I got lucky and tripped some locking mechanism when I was removing the first cable. I guess it's not really a serious issue right now as we do have a charger that plugs in to one of the electric sockets in the car. However in the future I will need to change cabling I'm sure and also for the convenience of mny wife plugging her phone in to listen to music even though we could hook it up through the blue tooth audio I suppose.
Anyone else run into this problem or have any suggestions on how to get a stubborn usb out it's socket. Like I say it is so deep it is hard to get decent leverage or a look at it.

I guess I'm lost as to where this cable is and why you needed to change it?

yup - happened to me and i was surprised. It worked fine but was a pain in the *** to get it out. My only advice is to go slow and pull gently but firmly.

Your best bet long term is to use the old cable you had before and get the $29 adapter that goes 30 pin to 9 pin. It works great and then you won't have to fool around with swapping cables.

I read an article that the USB end of the new lightning cables were slightly different than before and the locking holes(?)(square cutouts) on USB plug were more difficult to remove once plugged. The cable can be removed, just wiggle and keep pulling. If the problem persists, I'd buy a newer lightning cable. I believe the issue was fixed with newer cables.

Thanks for the feedback all, it's still stuck in there. Im sure i could take it to the dealer but its more of an annoyance/ inconvenience. I really wish I had just bought the adaptor instead. Kind of why I posted, to let people know it is an issue.

Must be hit or miss. I can remove mine fine.

I have read that you may lose some funcionality with the adaptor, i.e. displaying song info or controlling it though car, but haven't tested it. The cable was cheaper than the adapter anyway.

If you really can't get it out, set the old phone up as a Bluetooth music device instead.

I had the same issue, it was very snug. But if you work at it, it will come out. And over time it does get easier.

No problem with mine. I have media files all over several USB drives, so I change them often. They goes in and out very smoothly just like when switching them on the desktop.

The "APPLE" cable is different from the 4 to the 5.
He means removing his cable from the USB port in the armrest box.
They tend to stick.
