Ok. i'll clear this up. guy is in Tornoto. They are ILLEGAL. They will confiscate them. I've had mine taken away. I in fact got pulled over for having a 8500 x50 and NOT for speeding in London Ontario while i was going to GTA. Got a 300 dollar ticket and lost the detector. He was using a radar detector detector. Most use spectre up there.

NOW, I have used a STI-R Driver and the STI-R Plus in Ontario and they both work without getting detected by the OPP in Ontario or anywhere else. I was right next to a cop that had a spectre visible in his car and i had my radar detector going. Also be careful on speeding because once you go over 20km/h over the speed limit they can impound your car.

20km/h over? maybe for non ontario plate numbers but not 100% sure you'll get impounded. you have to be very unlucky to even get pulled over on ontario major highways going 20kp/h. knock on wood.

but if you get caught going 50kp/h over its minimul $10,000 fine + car impound & on the spot lisence suspension.

If you're an are where detectors are illegal, then you want the escort Redline or Beltronics STI-R

...remember if you're the only car on the road and the cop is using instant on radar the detector is essentially useless...

And if the cop is using laser then again the detector is useless...

Valentine 1 would be my suggestion but it's detectable by RDDs...STI-R may be better but it is more expensive if IIRC

Thanks for clarifying the detector question for ontario. But you need to be going 50km/h over to get your car impounded. I actually just spoke to a lawyer 2 days ago at a court room regarding that question. And he was dealing with a case 40km/h + and i asks whim how much you need to be going over in order to get your car impeded. and he said 50km/h and you say :the wave: car

Sorry. I dont know where i got 20, I meant to type 40 over. I guess I put 20 over cause that's what I always do in ontario going to GTA. A friend in a maxima got impounded for doing 42 over the limit, but was able to get the car out. I alway see the signs from windsor to london that have the fines on there and they dont show past 30km/h. But I know that if a cop even thinks your racing he'll impound your car. I was told and dont know this that they can crush the car as well. I dont know if that is true, but back to the Radar detector. Yeah, get one that does not leak and is not detected by spectre.

I have a valentine 1, had it for 6 years now, its been hardwired on all my coupes and now my current sedan. Its works very well if you dont have the tech package like do where its constantly going off. Plus now that I'm in the city, its always on silent seeing as there is no where to speed and it pretty much goes off on anything

If you have a detector in plain sight you are just asking for a ticket. If you get hit with laser with out a shifting system, You are dead meat. There is absolutly no defending instant on radar.

Thats why I went with the Escort 9500ci. Stealth installation.

It has saved my backside on more than a few occasions.

I do not use my system to break the law but, merely as a tool to keep myself out of trouble!

I installed an Escort Passport SR7. It also jams laser detections. These are both legal and so far work great. If you have the money, I would suggest getting an installed radar detector. It makes for a nice clean look and provides unparalleled protection from the rear and front, with good range. Just my 2 cents.

When it comes to laser guns, without a laser shifter, any detector is just going to be an indicator of an impending ticket, (assuming you're indeed speeding and the officer decides to give ya one) < everyone already knows this though so,

If the tech package on your G is causing your V1 to false alarm constantly, why on earth wouldn't you just disable the laser detecting (only) on it then?

Perhaps you're just one of the many V1 users that don't know how to make the most of their fine detector with it's custom user programming.

Oh yeah, for sure you're clueless about the custom user programming.
If you ever get around to it, you can start by disabling the X band entirely also, unless you actually have cops in your area still using those ancient X band radar guns...

i have the cobra wireless... honestly i dont think any state will do anything to u over a radar... BUT, if you are worried get one that u can easily ****** off real quick in case of getting pulled over ... or get the wireless cobra which comes in a 2 piece and works great for me... first piece is a tiny remote, second it a box that u cant see when its up ...

I've had my V1 for 13 years and it still works great. Hung from my mirror. I have the tech package and have not had any appreciable problem with false alarms, certainly not enough to customize it.

A sidebar to this is this thread...sure would be nice if...
